Job Description

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Acquire, produce, update, manage, classify and check legal content for Westlaw China databases.
  • The current databases include Current Awareness, Cases, Legislation (Laws and Regulations), Articles, Practice Areas, Topical Laws, Third Party Library, Legal Topics, Model Contracts, Legal Glossary.
  • Monitor and maintain legislation Website Watcher feeds, and update documents in the Content Management System (CMS).
  • Monitor and maintain news and current awareness Website Watcher feeds; write summaries of daily news items (in Chinese) and make recommendations for English translation of those items.
  • Collect full-text case law on a regular basis and upload those cases to the platform. Author case summaries.
  • Maintain content currency and accuracy at agreed service levels.
  • Perform regular quality control checks on the CMS and platform to ensure they are functioning correctly.
  • Liaise with the Translation Team on translation policies, content currency and shared workflows.
  • Advise managers, senior leadership and Proposition on relevant aspects of the Chinese legal system.
  • Monitor emerging legal developments in the China market and contribute to scope/content prioritization.
  • Facilitate team cross-training, and the training of new onshore/offshore team members.
  • Miscellaneous regular tasks relating to customized legislation publishing, including annotated legislation.

Scope and Impact:

  • Works independently with minimal guidance and with direct colleagues within a small team environment.
  • Supports Sales, Training and Proposition colleagues.
  • Liaises with government ministries and agencies to acquire legal content.
  • Liaises with offshore teams to support updating, to provide quality assurance and feedback.
  • Escalates major content issues, including any delays or outages, to the Head of Content.
  • Escalates technology issues to the Head of Content and relevant Technology manager/s Works with Technology & Content Operations to resolve issues and test new developments.
  • Suggests and justifies improvements to team processes and customer content.
  • Assists with customer, customer experience and sales queries.

Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies:

  • Good spoken and written English language skills.
  • Ability to summarize content in Chinese (and English, if required)
  • A degree in law AND paralegal practice experience OR major law firm knowledge center experience
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on agreed customer proposition and customer needs.
  • Experience with legal research databases, documents and data in multiple formats.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork within a close team environment.
  • An ongoing interest in the law, legal market and government affairs.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume environment with daily deadlines.
