Job Description

Commercial channel Strategy:

  • Responsible for strategy and Operational Efficiency across all Channels including Distribution chain, including wholesalers, distributors, Retail and Tenders
  • Provides strategic direction & leads, guides, evaluates the commercial team to manage the overall sales effectiveness and business development strategies
  • Develops and tracks execution of fully integrated channel strategy through collaboration with Sales, Marketing and Market Access
  • Sets up and manages monthly Business reporting across full supply chain in collaboration with Business and finance.
  • Develops and manages supplier strategies and partnerships to sustain business performance Ensure Commercial Excellence strategy development and implementation
  • Develops, manages, and implements business processes and controls that maximize productivity and profitability of sales resources.
  • Collaborates with sales management to ensure that strategies are supported throughout the organization.
  • Evaluates business activities so that ComEx strategies and objectives are established in alignment with the corporate vision to achieve profitable operations for the company.

Business Development:

  • Leads Business development initiatives to increase company’s revenue and profitability through licencing, partnership and local manufacturing projects
  • Ensures that targeted opportunities are identified, evaluated and,as appropriate, presented to the business effectively and efficiently.  These may be in/out licensing, divestment, acquisition or alliance opportunities.
  • Manages the relationship with the potential partners in a timely and professional manner; ensures that AZ remains competitive in 3rd party deal process.
  • Positively develops, manages and maintains stakeholder relationships with senior AZcolleagues, Legal and Finance.

Essential:

  • Strong judgement, decision-making & influence skills
  • Higher Business education/Master’s Degree
  • 5 years of Line management experience in marketing/commercial/sales and commercial strategy and Business Development experience
  • Experience with pre-launch, launch and established brands.
  • Strong commercial mindset, understanding of the marketing planning process, forecasting, budgeting and managing P&L
  • Ability to effectively influence implementation of key brand related activities across a wide range of levels and functions in the commercial business.
  • Leadership skills -sets high personal standard and takes personal responsibility
  • Builds networks & Collaborates: Effectively building formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organisation. Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
  • Negotiation & persuasion: Being tactful and diplomatic.Negotiate powerfully and persuade effectively to achieve set goals.
  • Business Insight and Intelligence: Applying knowledge of the business and the market place to advance the organisation’s goals. Knowing about competitors and the external environment.
  • Research and strategy: Strong research and strategic analytical skills, Knowledge of scientific, commercial and financial evaluation techniques. Experience to create a positive relationship with highest level of executives in 3rd parties as a company ambassador
  • Business Insight: Applying knowledge of the business and the market place to advance the organisation’s goals. Able to understand the science and implement differentiated opportunities
  • Drives results: Consistently achieving results, even under tough circumstances

Desirable:

  • Post graduate diploma/MBA with Commercial/Marketing qualification
  • Gaining commitment skills-through effective influencing and stakeholder management get strong buy-in to goals without direct line responsibility, e.g. in the marketing companies or central commercial functions.
  • Manages complexity: Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Project Management: Able to set goals, plan and manage projects, mange the risks involved, calculate budgets, cost, time and teams working on projects.
  • Good knowledge of disease areas, and drug development activities and commercial processes and especially within AZ.
  • Extensive experience in leading multiple cross / multi-functional teams of senior individuals
  • Knowledge of alternative deal structures and legal principles applicable to a range of deal types.
  • Existing knowledge of governance procedures relevant to deal progression and business development.
