Communication Manager Position for Resolve to Save Lives, Vital Strategies
Background
Vital Strategies is a US-based international public health organization working in more than 70 countries to address important and challenging health issues. We develop and oversee programs in low and middle-income countries to strengthen public health systems and address leading causes of morbidity and mortality, providing expertise in project implementation and management, strategic communications, epidemiology and surveillance, and other core public health capacities.
Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a groundbreaking 5-year global health initiative that aims to save millions of lives by reducing preventable deaths from cardiovascular disease and to prevent infectious disease epidemics. An initiative of Vital Strategies, RTSL is starting work with a number of key partners including the China National Health Commission, China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, provincial Health Commissions, Provincial CDCs, professional societies and the WHO to build capacity for and implement a core package of interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease.
Vital Strategies / RTSL is currently seeking a Communications Manager. This role is based in Beijing and reports to the Communication Director in China Office and the RTSL Communications Director in the headquarter. The successful candidate will work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment, contributing to a large-scale effort to save millions of lives. The purpose of the role is to develop and implement communication strategies to support RTSL initiative in China.
Key responsibilities:
Communications strategy, planning and delivery
- Serve as Cardiovascular Health (CVH) team communications point of contact. Develop systematic communication plans on sodium reduction, trans fat elimination, and hypertension control.
- Coordinate with national, provincial and local partners to assess the needs for communication materials in China.
- Coordinate with international, national, provincial, and local partners to plan and implement communications activities in China.
- Compile currently available communication materials and develop new materials as needed to support CVH program efforts, such as fact sheets, brochures, posters, OpEds, blogs, success stories, panel remarks and other project collateral.
- Participate in domestic and global knowledge sharing in communications strategies and materials related to CVH.
- Prepare quarterly sodium reduction and hypertension update newsletter to share with key partners.
- Support CVH China speaking engagements
- Track and evaluate all RTSL China communications activities,
- Coordinate RTSL China external events (conferences, training and workshops, and launching events)
- Support RTSL China CVH scientific article production and promotion
- Collaborate with CVH staff and Communications Director on new ideas, directions, approaches and venues for RTSL communications
- Develop content for Resolve to Save Lives Chinese website, WeChat and other Chinese social media platforms.
Media relations
- Identify and prioritize media outlets in China; and develop a relationship plan identifying responsibilities for engaging with each outlet.
- Develop key media briefing materials, including media interview prep materials, briefing documents and press releases
- Manage media participation at RSTL events.
- Prepare comprehensive and timely responses to media enquiries.
- Provide advice and guidance on standard operating procedures for managing relationships with media outlets.
- Provide advice and guidance on working partners’ media events associated with RSTL activities.
Brand management
- Manage the RTSL brand in China, providing internal training to colleagues on the brand and ensuring brand compliance across our communication channels.
- Ensure the consistent use and promotion of the RTSL brand in China (including, for example, brand framework, visual identity standards, messaging and tone of voice).
Other responsibilities and main duties
- Assist the China Country Director – supporting the production and distribution of quarterly and yearly RTSL China newsletter and contributing input to the internal newsletter.
- Budgeting, controlling and reporting according to RSTL standards.
- Ensure accurate recording of all new media partnerships and business contacts and manage accounts as agreed with the China Country Director.
- Any other duties as deemed necessary by China Country Director
Salary: need to be negotiated
Qualifications and Skill Set:
- Master’s degree and over 5years’ experience in health communications, health policy, public relations, communications, digital communication, or equivalent level of experience
- Outstanding writing skills with sample blogs, OpEds, and/or short essays
- Strong social media management skills, ideally with documented experience managing social media accounts and examples of innovative social media strategies
- Excellent communicator in Chinese, and good in English, both written and oral
- Exceptional computer skills with experience in all Microsoft Office programs
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign preferred
- Proficiency in HTML and CSS is a plus
- Background in health or biological sciences is a plus
- Self-motivated, meticulously organized, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and with others

- 协助心血管健康工作小组在中国开展演讲或讲座等活动。
- 及时跟进并评估“决心工程”在中国的各类传播活动。
- 协调“决心工程”在中国的对外活动(包括会议、培训、工作研讨及启动仪式等活动)。
- 协助“决心工程”心血管健康工作小组在中国进行科研文章的写作及宣传。
- 与心血管健康工作小组的工作人员和“决心工程”传播部门的主管合作,协助推进“决心工程”对内对外传播工作的思路、方向、方法及活动场所等方面工作的创新。
- 负责“决心工程”中文网站、微信公众号等中国社交媒体平台的内容更新等工作。
媒体关系
- 了解中国的各家媒体并确定其优先次序;制定媒体传播计划,确定与每个媒体接触的职责。
- 编写重要媒体有关简报材料,包括媒体采访准备材料、简报文件和新闻稿等。
- 负责媒体参与“决心工程”活动的管理工作。
- 全面及时回应媒体的询问。
- 就管理媒体关系的标准操作程序提供咨询和指导。

品牌管理
- 负责中国“决心工程”品牌管理工作,为同事提供品牌方面的内部培训,并确保各传播渠道的品牌合规。
- 确保“决心工程”品牌在中国的使用和推广方式保持统一(包括品牌框架、视觉识别标准、短信和语音语调等内容)。
其他职责
- 协助卫健策略中国区主任工作—协助制作和发行“决心工程”中国季度和年度报告,并为内部报告提供相关材料。
- 根据“决心工程”标准进行工作预算、把控和报告。
- 确保准确记录所有新的媒体合作伙伴关系和业务联系,与中国区主任沟通,按照沟通意见管理合作伙伴。

需要具备的工作资质和能力:
- 硕士及以上学位,具有5年以上的健康领域传播、卫生政策、公共关系、通信、数字通信等方面的工作经验或同等资历
- 出色的写作能力,包括博客、专栏文章或短篇文章等
- 极强的社交媒体管理能力,具有管理社交媒体账户的经验或具备创新社交媒体战略案例的优先考虑
- 优秀的中文交流能力,良好的英语书面和口头表达能力
- 出色的计算机应用能力,能够熟练操作微软的所有办公软件
- 能够熟练操作Photoshop、Illustrator和InDesign等设计软件的优先考虑
