How can you make a difference?

We’re looking to strengthen our work with influencers. The tasks of the new recruit will include assisting in identifying and engaging UNICEF China’s key influencers around public communication events and campaigns to get children’s issues into the public domain, broaden UNICEF’s supporter base, strengthen policy influence and public engagement in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives in China, and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand.

This will entail:

  • Conduct research on the scope of potential celebrities and other key influencers and opinion leaders who may meet the criteria for supporting UNICEF China’s communication and advocacy priorities. Draft pre-selection notes and gather basic information of the candidates, including biographies, main professional achievements, evidenced interest in philanthropy and status of his/her digital influence.
  • Facilitate the celebrity/key influencer screening process. Perform a background check on the celebrities who are identified by internal teams or partners to engage in the UNICEF-supported events or activities, or who approach UNICEF with interest in working with UNICEF for children.
  • Support to the production of high-quality briefing materials for UNICEF China’s celebrity partners to understand the purpose, key messages, timeline, action plan and expected outputs for the UNICEF events and campaigns requiring their support. Assist in drafting and editing briefing notes, exchanging feedback with celebrity management team and coordinating with internal and external partners to finalize the work plans.
  • Assist in facilitating celebrities’ offline and online engagement in the UNICEF events and activities including but not limited to field visits, advocacy events, media productions, digital campaigns and social messaging.
  • Organize media interviews with UNICEF celebrity partners. Assist in preparing the talking points for celebrity partners in response to media queries as appropriate. Coordinate with internal and celebrity teams to review the draft reports and negotiate with media to make sure UNICEF’s feedback is accepted. Collect media coverage after the interviews are completed.
  • Support monitoring and assessment of the impact of the UNICEF celebrity engagement in media and social media. Follow the trends, identify and evaluate opportunities and risks related to UNICEF celebrity partnerships in alignment with the office’s communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining effective collaboration with celebrity partners and other key influencers whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives.
  • Provide logistical support for planning, preparation and execution of physical events, including coordination with programme sections, liaison with relevant counterparts/contractors, and in-person support and coordination on-site, as required.
  • Support to developing public communication products including press releases, human interest stories, fact sheets and other information materials that will be distributed to media and through UNICEF digital channels.
  • Provide support to the management of communication and advocacy campaigns and the fulfillment of other demands as required by the Communication Section.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree, preferably an advanced degree, in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or other related area.
  • At least two or three years of responsible professional work experience in public communication, working with celebrities or other related areas, preferably in a non-profit organization, is required.
  • Good understanding of influencer landscape and general trends of outreach strategy in China.
  • Ability to formulate strategies and concepts, and experience in planning and organising projects.
  • Persuasion, negotiation and influence, confidence in building relationships and networks
  • Fluency in English and Chinese
