The Communications Director will report to the Executive Director and will have primary responsibility for the following:
• Developing and refining an overall communications strategy for the organization, in consultation with TBC staff and key stakeholders (TBC Board, international partners, etc.)
• Working closely with TBC’s US-based recruiters to develop cohesive and consistent student recruitment strategies, including an understanding of competitor programs
• Maintaining and growing a newsletter distribution list and producing a regular newsletter (3-4 times per annum)
• Maintaining and updating the TBC website, including making it dynamic and interactive
• Generating news content about TBC activities for the website and social media
• Building TBC’s media engagement and contacts both in the US and China, including developing media releases, emergency response statements, and other crucial communications as required
• Developing and maintaining up-to-date and targeted print marketing materials and design templates including procurement of design services and maintenance of a digital media archive
• Keeping up to date and informed on the latest communications strategies in the international education sector including ongoing analysis of the TBC communications strategy, and updating it as needed
• Overseeing the Communication and Social Media internship program, with supervision of these staff support roles
• Assisting TBC colleagues with event management as required
Selection criteria
Essential:
• A degree or other qualification in Communications or a closely related field
• Five or more years work experience in a field such as marketing, public relations, advertising, journalism/media, or another relevant industry
• A demonstrated ability to develop and execute an organizational communications strategy
• A proven ability to bring creative energy and ideas to an organization and follow through with action
• Native-level English fluency is essential including excellent writing skills and a demonstrated ability to write well for different audiences and purposes
• Expertise across the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Cloud and website CMS (content management systems) and experience managing social media platforms
Preferred:
• Chinese language ability is a strong preference as is experience in China and in particular with higher education or a related field
• Ten years work experience in a relevant industry, with preference for management/leadership experience in a multinational, multi-cultural environment
• A strong understanding of the international higher education sector and/or a personal study abroad experience
• Access to a network of communications professionals throughout the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU)
• Photography, videography and graphic design skills will be an advantage
Remuneration and benefits
The Communications Director role will initially be offered as a 12-month full-time contract position, with remuneration and benefits commensurate to experience. The incumbent will be expected to work full-time, based at The Beijing Center office at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. The Beijing Center is an equal opportunity workplace with flexible working practices. The position will involve occasional attendance at out-of-hours events and some travel within China and abroad.
