Job Description:

Position Summary: The Communications and Stewardship Coordinator provides system-wide guidance and support for a wide variety of development, public relations, marketing and communications duties. This position is part of the Maine Veterans' Homes (MVH) Development and Communications Office, working in close cooperation with the Director of Marketing and reports to the Director of Development.

Job Related Responsibilities and Activities: Develop in-depth knowledge of our six Homes, our residents, our services offered, along with emerging events and initiatives, to ensure full understanding and accurate representation when communicating to members of the community, media, donors and all MVH stakeholders.

Core Communications Responsibilities

• Support the Director of Marketing in building and maintaining relationships with key media partners and policymakers. This may include assisting with messaging content for press releases or assisting MVH staff with talking points as needed;
• Assist in the dissemination of information about MVH, its programs and activities by way of various media, to include print, broadcast and be primary point of contact for social networks;
• Maintain a library of stories and photographs which showcase MVH's work;
• Oversee the organization’s branding and graphics standards ensuring all stakeholders are provided current messaging, logo(s) etc. to properly represent MVH;
• Work with outside consultants as needed to create meaningful high-quality print and electronic newsletters and our annual heroes calendar
• Assist with the execution of the organization's paid marketing activities;

Core Stewardship Responsibilities

• Oversee MVH’s gift processing program collecting donor information and generating acknowledgements and other correspondences as needed;
• Oversee MVH’s development software system ensuring the information is accurate and monthly reports as provided to key development stakeholders
• Oversee MVH’s donor recognition program for both annual and capital donors, ensuring recognition provided is appropriate, accurate, and completed in a timely fashion.
• Work with the Director of Development to maintain a highly engaging donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that new major donors are developed, existing donors are encouraged to upgrade, and all major donors benefit from a close relationship with MVH;
• Enhance relationships with current and potential new donors through meetings, phone calls, and other cultivation opportunities as needed;
• Assist in creating compelling, effective fundraising appeals both for direct mail and electronic appeals and oversees appeal process;

• Experienced multitasker that can work with multiple stakeholders on various projects daily;
• Excellent writing and interview skills;
• Understanding of social media and experience with Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram;
• Photography and videography skills and experience;

Education/Training/Experience:

• Experience in marketing or Communications, with at least 2 years' experience in communications and fundraising preferred;
• Demonstrable achievements in the area of communications and/or fundraising;
• Awareness of and sensitivity to issues that impact Veterans and older persons;
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office and working knowledge of a range of other computer applications.
