Job Purpose
The role of the Communications & External Affairs Director is to lead the development and execution of a creative and high impact communications and engagement strategy across their market that builds the RICS brand, leads to commercial revenue where applicable and ensures all our stakeholders understand and support RICS’s purpose and direction.
Key Responsibilities
Build the RICS influence in the market with the highest levels of government and other key policy makers and influencers to ensure that our approach effects real change that supports our public interest mandate, supports the growth of the profession and leads directly or indirectly to commercial revenue opportunities
Lead the relationship with relevant Professional Bodies and coalition partners in your market, focusing our efforts on practical standards adoption and membership growth initiatives
Work with the Commercial Director to ensure we have the strongest possible relationship with the business community in the market, working collaboratively to identify and unlock opportunities for standards adoption, membership growth and commercial products and services
Collaborate with the Brand, Thought Leadership and Communications global team to influence the global strategy for communication and engagement, and ensure the market plans and strategy are aligned with the global approach
Own the audience / stakeholder segment definitions and insights for the market, working with colleagues globally to identify commonality of segments and deepen our knowledge of key groups
Use the global and local communications strategies and the market audience segment insights to develop and implement an integrated approach to communicating and engaging with all RICS candidates and professionals across the market in order to strengthens the relevance and value perception of RICS
Develop and implement a strategic external communication plan that strengthens the profile, influence and credibility of the RICS brand across our target audience segments at national and regional level
Take responsibility for all Internal Communications activity and channels for the market, working with the Global Internal Communications team to ensure all central and local internal communications activity is highly effective and impactful, reflective of local needs
Collaborate effectively with other departments within the market (Commercial, Operations, Product Development] to ensure there is an aligned and carefully planned approach to communication and engagement with our stakeholders, which utilises all of the levers available to maximise influence and revenue opportunities
Ensure that there is a dedicated focus on growing our future talent and increase the diversity of the profession within the market
Provide motivating and effective leadership within the market by leading a high performing, engaged team, ensuring that all team members have clear roles and responsibilities and business plan-aligned SMART objectives, whilst role modelling the RICS behaviours and providing effective, positively framed feedback on a timely basis

Increased engagement across the profession and with key audience segments / stakeholders
Adoption of RICS professional statements and international standards by target accounts

Experience / Skills Required
Influential and highly credible with an ability to build relationships at senior levels-both internal and external.
Strategic thinking and analysis
A strong leader who can build a high performing team operating out of multiple locations. Proven leadership ability in attracting, engaging, developing & retaining talents and managing change and building stronger team.
Extensive experience of developing integrated strategies across all aspects of communications and public affairs
Extensive experience with government relations and legislative affairs and how best to use to effect change
Creative thinker and outstanding in execution of programmes
A collaborative approach that ensures a complex array of audiences and stakeholders are motivated to deliver objectives
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Financially astute with a good understanding of formulating business plans and managing activities within financial boundaries.
Understanding of the role and value of professions and international standards.
Experience of working in a global organisation
Understanding of the issues and opportunities facing global real estate and land markets and the construction and infrastructure professional services sector.
Able to prepare and achieve accurate and progressive department plan with business strategy.
Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization
Able to complete the short term and ad hoc tasks as line manager assigned in a timely manner.
Excellent verbal and written English and Mandarin skill.
