Job Description

Microsoft Corporation has an immediate opening for an experienced compliance manager to protect Microsoft corporate and customer data sought by governmental agencies, such as law enforcement, while responding to legal process-based demands.

The position will be based in Dublin, as part of the Law Enforcement and National Security (LENS) International Team within Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA).

 

Organization:

The Microsoft Corporate, External, & Legal Affairs group works on the cutting edge of business and regulatory issues around the world, playing a proactive and engaged role pioneering new legal and corporate affairs solutions that advance business goals, while benefitting consumers, industry partners, and local communities.

The Law Enforcement and National Security (LENS) Team handles all criminal and civil legal demand disclosures, in compliance with European, U.S., and international law. LENS support includes compliance for services such as Hotmail & Outlook.com, OneDrive, Xbox Live, Skype, and other online services.

 

Additional LENS Services:

  • Assistance to internal Microsoft investigations to support efforts such as internet safety enforcement matters (spam, phishing, malware)
  • Partnering with internal business departments to ensure that they acquire and retain customer data for their online services in accordance with Microsoft policy, their business needs, and the requirements of Law Enforcement
  • Engagement with law enforcement for outreach and education

Responsibilities

  • The review of and response to legal demands (subpoenas, court orders and search warrants) for consumer information (e.g. Hotmail, OneDrive, Xbox Live, Skype, and other online services) while upholding Microsoft’s policies protecting consumer data and privacy; these requests must be answered accurately, with a high level of discretion and confidentiality, and in a timely manner according to compliance due dates;
  • Management of document-based legal escalations;
  • Participation in the LENS emergency response team, which provides 24/7 on-call support for emergency law enforcement escalations (rotation throughout the team throughout the year)
  • Interfacing with governmental entities to resolve legal process ambiguities in a manner that serves Microsoft’s customers, the public’s and the company’s interests; and,
  • Compliance with Microsoft policies, standards and business procedures designed to foster compliance with legal requirements and best practices.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience;
  • Prior experience dealing with government legal demands and law enforcement authorities compelling the production of customer data; experience with EU privacy laws, data retention requirements, and statutes compelling the production of information; experience with other jurisdictions’ privacy, data retention and data production laws is additionally beneficial;
  • Ability to maintain availability for scheduled 24/7 emergency response program rotation;
  • Fluency in English is essential; a proficiency in French and/or German is highly desirable;
  • Advanced analytical, research and writing capabilities; superior communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills;
  • CIPP/E privacy compliance certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain certification;
  • Ability to work independently, pragmatically, proactively and efficiently on a wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment;
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized;
  • Flexibility with multi-tasking functions in a dynamic environment and the ability to prioritize concurrent high-profile issues;
  • Ability to accommodate fluctuations in work demands;
  • Ability to understand a variety of technologies, business interests and political and regulatory goals; and
  • Familiarity with the software industry and a working knowledge of Microsoft products and services highly desirable.

 

Candidates must be able to meet all security screening requirements as indicated for this role. All employees hired into roles supporting Cloud Offerings will also be required to pass Microsoft background checks prior to the start of employment and every two years thereafter.
