Computational Biologist
Applied MaterialsSingaporeUpdate time: July 23,2021
Job Description

Veranome Biosystems LLC, an Applied Materials company, provides the spatial analysis market with a reliable, easy-to-use, end-to-end multi-omics solution. We enable researchers to deepen their understanding of diseases with high-quality data of how individual cells organize within tissue, using robust workflows, reliable imaging systems and without the need for extensive bioinformatics tools or infrastructure. Veranome’s unique combination of genomics expertise and world-class high-speed diffraction limited optical imaging capabilities enables researchers to access in-situ spatial omics and elucidate reliable disease insights with unsurpassed data quality.

Job Summary:

Veranome Biosystems is looking for outstanding computational biologist!  You will invent new computational method and algorithm for Veranome’s multi-omic digital platform. You will help our customers to interpret biological insight of spatial transcriptomic data and build the pipeline to automate the process. The successful candidate for this position should have a flexible and learning mindset, be able to work in a growing company, be comfortable working with globally distributed development teams and have a strong desire to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems. In this role, you will have opportunity to work on several greenfield projects through collaboration with world-class molecular biological labs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and prototype data processing pipeline for internal assay and instrument development.
  • Contribute to the software product lifecycle from requirements gathering to validation.
  • Interact with a cross-functional team of software engineers, wet lab scientists, and product developer to determine requirements and functionality.
  • Develop and support novel bioinformatic solutions for external collaboration projects.
  • Test and validate new computational methods for Veranome’s digital products.
  • Create documentation and training materials.

Key Competencies:

  • Proven track record of innovation in computational methods and or workflows.
  • Strong knowledge on core concepts of applied statistics.
  • Familiar with at least one scripting language used in data science, such as R, Python or MATLAB.
  • Well-developed documentation and technical report writing skills.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and the ability to manage the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in large-scale biomarker or multi-omics data is desirable.
  • Experience in NoSQL database and its application over cloud environment is a plus.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in quantitative field (e.g. bioengineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, computational biology or related field). We welcome applicants with scientific or biomedical academic degrees and demonstrated experience in algorithm development.  Experience in AI/machine learning is preferred.

Why you’ll love working here: This is an exciting time in this field. While most industries slowed down in response to the global pandemic in 2020, the field of spatial omics only accelerated. Established companies and startups continued to announce products, engage in M&A activity, and democratize their technology beyond pure innovators. To meet the moment, the launch of Veranome in March of 2021 seamlessly addresses the need to develop software and hardware solutions for solving researchers’ biggest problems.

Who you will work with:  You’ll work with an amazing team of experts as we develop cutting-edge products that unlock the potential of high-plex, subcellular resolution spatial-omics.

The value you bring + the value you deliver:  Your work will bring advanced high-content imaging and image analysis in high-plex spatial analysis into a variety of new applications.  You will bring the creative leadership our company needs to deliver the highest quality solutions to market.
