Job Description
Job Summary Drives the strategy in regards of contact materials by collaborating with strategic material suppliers, scientific research entities and EATON internal stakeholders Provides metallurgical expertise on electrical contact materials to Power Management & Control Components (PMCC) Engineering and Innovation Drives research activities on contact material science in PMCC. Job Responsibilities Provides expertise on contact materials for low-voltage switching devices such as circuit breakers and contactors and metal processing technologies Explores currently available and new electrical contact materials in the market to evaluate their applicability for Eaton’s devices Defines metallurgical analyses of contact materials for electrical applications and evaluates the results of the analyses for use in the business sectors Creates metallurgical guidelines and consulting instructions on contact material compositions and joining techniques between contacts and contact holders suitable to diverse applications in PMCC and shares and deploys knowledge in the business sectors Supports purchasing department in resourcing and qualification of contact materials from strategic suppliers Supports cost analysis on electrical contact materials Generates and protects EATON IP on contact materials for switchgear devices Collaborates with EATON engineering centers and external material science resources like universities, material labs, and supplier research groups Supports PMCC product engineering teams in testing and validating different contact materials statistically according to regulatory and standard requirements Supports funded projects and joint ventures with potential material science peers Qualifications Qualifications Education level required: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in electromechanical engineering or equivalent (e.g., physics, chemical engineering, or material scientist). Years and area of experience required: Experience in material science is mandatory and knowledge in electrical contact materials and contacting mechanisms is required Strong motivation to work with different engineering teams and across regions Travel expected up to 20%. Technical knowledge: Strong technical attitude with core competency on material science Electromechanical design of contact mechanisms and arc physics Knowledge in statistical math and tools will be preferable Experience in different ERP and Data Management systems is a plus Soft skills: Ability to work in a project team with internal and external experts Fluent in English (C1) and German (B2) Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability What you will get from us Eaton’s mission is to improve the quality of life and the environment through the use of power management technologies and services.
