Job Description

Eaton’s Aerospace Division is currently seeking a Continuous Improvement Technician to join our team. This position is based at our Middlesex, NC.

The Continuous Improvement Technician is responsible for practical application of the basic Lean tools and assisting/leading Kaizen events throughout the manufacturing and administrative areas of the plant. 
The Continuous Improvement Technician will assist plant leaders to ensure plant level Continuous Improvement programs, policies, procedures and systems are developed, implemented and sustained. This includes scheduling assisting in Kaizen events to drive improvements in the front-office and shop processes that will impact employee safety, productivity, product delivery performance, and cost.

The CI Technician must embrace change and take a lead role in designing and supporting processes that facilitate transitions to a larger audience. The CI Technician is expected to effectively communicate and coordinate activities and information across functions in support of plant, functional, and departmental goals.

In this function you will:
 

  • Learn, understand, and apply Eaton Lean System concepts and techniques
  • Actively support (lead meetings, record and document processes, coordinate actions and follow up) the implementation of all lean manufacturing elements, including but not limited to:Value Stream Mapping, Standardized Work, Set-up Reduction, Error Proofing, Pull Systems, Continuous Flow Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance, Operation Showcase (5-S)
  • Collect data and update various reports and trackers in excel and databases and perform basic data analysis
  • Provide technical support in the facilitation of kaizen events
  • Act to implement improvements – this may include floor marking, labeling, building racks, relocating parts, sorting, straightening, shining, painting, and lifting. 
  • Provide support to the Total Preventative Maintenance program – this may include maintaining and repairing production and support equipment.
  • Assist in Implementing visual markings on flow of 5-S, FIFO lanes etc., provide tool organization, fabricate shadow boards, tool organizers, and facilitate 5-S events
  • Participate in audits to ensure sustainment of deployed Lean programs 
  • Assist in designing and developing work instructions, Standard Operating Procedures for performance based on-the-job training
  • Train individuals on the fundamentals of lean manufacturing and build capability in others by teaching and coaching 
  • Evaluate and measure training results to ensure timeliness, relevance, and ongoing application to the job.
  • Provide regular and effective communication with stakeholders of status of improvement activities.
  • Support in maintaining an atmosphere of continuous improvement and team efforts for accomplishing departmental and plant goals
  • Be a change management champion for teams
  • Perform procedures necessary to ensure compliance with the Eaton Safety Process and ensure the personal safety of the incumbent including eye safety, hearing conservation, machine safety guards, ergonomic movement, lock out/tag out, MSDS procedures, and OHSA regulations
  • Achieve standards as communicated by supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • One of the following types of experience is required:
    • Minimum two (2) years manufacturing experience in an environment where lean tools (5-S, set-up reduction, TPM, etc.) were in use, OR
    • Minimum one (1) year manufacturing experience, along with experience in the implementation or support of Eaton s Lean System elements
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Middlesex, NC will be considered.  Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree or in the process of pursuing such degree
  • Experience working in a continuous improvement position within a manufacturing environment
  • Participate in and demonstration of understanding of other programs, such as MESH, 5S, Eaton Safety ELSS, etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership competencies including demonstrating ability to facilitate and lead teams in such activities as problem solving, brainstorming sessions, group discussions, etc.
  • Knowledge of leading Kaizen events
  • Knowledge of production equipment operation and maintenance 
  • Ability to tolerate an ambiguous environment. 
  • Demonstrated solid written and verbal communications, problem solving, and customer relations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively with minimal supervision in a high involvement, team oriented work atmosphere, effectively supporting the work activities of employment such as are supervisor, engineer, quality control, peers, and customers
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, interpret, and effectively apply information contained and all applicable documents such as operating instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, design standards, dimensional sheets, and/or blueprints
  • Process computer data management skills (able to create spreadsheets and enter data accurately), ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office products
