Job Description

The Control Specialist:

  • Provides technical support within the Assembly Department for controls functions of conveying equipment and process equipment.
  • Optimizes the controls function to yield better utilization, operation and uptime, and less rework.
  • Provides technical support of upper level Assembly systems.
  • Leads innovation projects.
  • Plans and optimizes the controls systems of the technical equipment and the upper level systems within the Assembly Department.
  • Develops and implements equipment controls countermeasures to improve equipment safety, efficiency, cost and reliability.
  • Develops HMI and IPS-T screens for automatic conveyor and process equipment controls.
  • Series project oriented planning and realization of improvement measures in collaboration with the other internal BMW teams as well as external suppliers.
  • Develop local Plant 10 Assembly Department requirements, in reference to the standards and best practices of the BMW controls technology.
  • Evaluates concepts with technical and financial focus and drives necessary changes according to the BMW Group standards and local requirements.
  • Ensures all equipment controls design and systems are capable of meeting or exceeding the Assembly Department uptime target.
  • Verifies proper controls specific documentation delivery from the original equipment manufacturer.
  • Recommends and implements improvements to the systems.
  • Key user for Upper level Assembly systems.
  • Provides technical support to Assembly Department resolving systems and controls related issues with new models or other projects.
  • Supports the Assembly Department technical training by conducting training classes and providing technical documentation.
  • Leads innovation projects to predict equipment reliability and risk identification, and to improve the relationship between equipment and components.
  • Manages TCP/IP based field buses and the IT related automation.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • BS degree in Electronics/Mechatronics (EE preferred) or 4 years of work experience in a controls oriented role.
  • 5+ years in Controls: PLC, Systems, Automation/Robotics, Profinet, Profibus, E-plan, Drives (mainly SEW), Safety PLC; (automotive conveying and process equipment preferred).
  • 3+ years working experience with Siemens S7 PLC: trouble shooting and programming in Ladder/FBD/SCL language including S7 graph and Safety.
  • 3+ years working experience with Siemens TIA portal programming and troubleshooting, Allen Bradley, ethernet networks, TCP/IP, PC hardware trouble shooting, drives, etc.
  • 3+ years Project Management - Business Administration skills: planning, budgeting, time management, scheduling.
  • 3+ years MS Office computer skills, (Visual Basics, antivirus experience preferred).
  • Basic SAP knowledge, or other inventory/scheduling database.
  • Manufacturing experience (preferred).
