Job Description

SDL, a leader in global customer experience management, has an exciting role for a seasoned marketing writer who is passionate about aligning content and strategy to drive results. This person is a talented storyteller that knows how to turn in-depth technical facts and ideas into compelling content for digital consumption across multiple channels and touch points, driving conversion and helping to build our brand.
 
Reporting to the senior director of marketing communications, this person will work on key marketing initiatives, create and support execution of strategic content plans aligned with sales and marketing goals, craft a broad range of company-wide content and collaborate with a small but busy creative team to drive the success of the SDL brand globally.
 
The successful candidate will boast an impressive portfolio of varied content and is naturally collaborative, meticulous and creative, thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product marketing and marketing program teams to create campaign messaging and strategic content plans that support demand generation across sales stages.
  • Serve as a lead writer for a range of marketing materials for campaigns and SDL Brand initiatives (whitepapers, case studies, eBooks, video storyboards, presentations, website and campaign content)
  • Collaborate directly with creative services, providing creative input to transform your content into inspired pieces that maximize conversion
  • Support the content creation process with external writers, ensuring that outside resources understand the SDL writing guidelines and create content to support the SDL Brand
  • Work closely with video services to create scripts and brainstorm storyboards that help tell compelling stories
  • Interview customers and craft a range of testimonial assets including videos, case studies and presentations that help sell the SDL success story
  • Work closely with the web team on content to continuously improve the customer journey online
  • Copy edit high-touch marketing content, ensuring the principles of good storytelling are applied for the channel, asset and audience at hand; that its optimized for the web and inbound marketing; 

Skills and Experience required – before applying 

Experience: 

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a marketing content editor / copywriter or similar with either a B2B or B2C company, preferably in the technology sector
  • Demonstrated experience applying a content marketing approach to awareness building/demand generation efforts
  • Proven experience writing clear, concise, compelling, accurate and grammatically correct copy
  • Proven experience writing for digital channels and creating SEO copy that converts
  • Proven experience applying different language styles that appeal to various personas, target markets and channels, preferably with a focus on digital content
  • Experience conceptualizing story ideas for a wide range of assets and building storyboards for presentations and videos
  • Experience working as part of a team with other creatives either in-house or in an agency; experience collaborating with remote teams and stakeholders is a plus. 

Skills and Person Specification:  

  • Proven ability to turnaround high-quality copy within a short timeframe, applying our style guide and tone of voice consistently across a wide range of assets
  • Proven ability to adapt writing style as appropriate for the target audience (personas, business area, industry), asset type, channel and point in the sales cycle
  • Demonstrates excellent proofreading experience: attention to detail (spelling, grammar, typos) and high level of accuracy
  • Proven research and interview ability, asking probing questions tactfully to establish the story angle. Experience working directly with customers a plus
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex information and ideas, crafting easy to understand, engaging copy for the target audience
  • Conceptual thinker able to visualize creative and unique approaches to storytelling 
  • Proven ability to create content that is localized into multiple languages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Possesses a strong focus on customer service both internal and external, and is a natural collaborator
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritize and manage high-volume workloads
  • Ability to simultaneously serve multiple stakeholders with demanding deadlines from all areas of the business and from different global markets
  • Possesses good project management skills with a high level of organization and a flexible approach
  • Highly self-sufficient and self-motivated, comfortable managing own workload independently
  • Fast learner able to get up to speed quickly with a complex, fast-paced and evolving business
  • Knowledge of customer experience as it relates to the technology sector with good commercial awareness, a distinct advantage
  • Good technical understanding with an ability to pick up new tools quickly using a number of IT packages
  • High commitment to the success of the team and business, and demonstrates a strong work ethic
  • A can-do positive attitude with high levels of passion and enthusiasm

20% Content strategy – Collaborate with marketing teams to develop campaign messaging and strategic content marketing plans that support the complete marketing and sales cycle.
60% Write, edit and optimize content – Deliver high quality, on brand content that supports SDL’s vision and business objectives.
20% Project management – Meet and collaborate with stakeholders and team members as part of the content strategy and creation process, manage projects with external writers and content administration
