What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead Amgen’s innovative and diverse inflammation portfolio. The Director will be responsible for mobilizing a high-performing team of communicators while working cross functionally to deliver integrated communications strategies to support and differentiate our well-established products, and inflammation biosimilars while delivering growth for our innovative brands and setting the stage for the future pipeline.

The portfolio has broad coverage across the main areas of autoimmune disease, including gastroenterology, dermatology, rheumatology and respiratory. The Corporate Affairs Director will be instrumental in driving growth for TEZSPIRE, the first and only biologic for severe asthma to be approved without phenotypic or biomarker limitations. In addition to preparing to launch, AMJEVITA, Amgen’s biosimilar for adalimumab, the number one biologic medicine worldwide.

This position can sit remotely, and does not need to be located in Thousand Oaks, CA.

In this role you will need to:

  • Deliver high-impact, integrated communications plans that communicate, engage and amplify the Inflammation story across channels and platforms to reach key stakeholders.
  • Inspire and lead a team of savvy communicators working on key inflammation products and molecules
  • Demonstrate established experience working on both data and regulatory milestones including drug launches, as well as consumer-facing campaigns
  • Showcase comfortability and flexibility pivoting based on new information as well as issues management as necessary
  • Deliver as a trusted counselor to executive-level staff and poised, polished presenter
  • Be committed to quality and excellent, self-starter and team player
  • Exhibit excellent writing and interpersonal skills
  • Liaise gracefully with colleagues within Corporate Affairs including Advocacy and other functions such as IR, Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Government Affairs and Commercial
  • Energetic and supportive manager who advocates for staff growth
  • Oversee multiple PR agencies with clear direction while measuring results and impact

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years of communications or public relations experience

Or

Master’s degree and 7 years of communications or public relations experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of communications or public relations experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fifteen years within communications or public relations.
  • Deep understanding of the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry or health care
  • Demonstrated skills in developing, managing and delivering communications strategies and plans in a complex organization.
  • Ability to operate effectively on large cross-functional teams and experience establishing two-way channels to open communication lines, create dialogue and ensure alignment.
  • Meaningful experience in social and digital media, earned media relations, issues management and internal communications.
  • Passion for the role paired with strong written, spoken and interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to productively navigate a challenging and dynamic environment and adapt to rapid changes.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and planning skills.
  • Collaboratively work with a diverse group of people and backgrounds.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm and creativity.
  • Experience in creating and translating scientific and technical content for a broad range of audiences.
