Job Overview

The Cost Engineering department is a global team responsible for calculating costs of purchased parts and tooling for series production and new projects. Through the use of standardized processes, IT-systems and our global Cost Engineering network within Daimler Trucks (Brazil, Japan, India, Europe and NAFTA) we generate transparent bottom up cost calculations that can be utilized a multitude of ways.
In new product projects like New Cascadia, we work in collaboration with Controlling, Purchasing and Engineering departments in negotiations of new parts and tooling, for cost and design optimization, establishing long-term strategies with our suppliers. In Module Strategy, we contribute to establish a global long term strategy for parts where all of Daimler Trucks can benefit.  Often this is done through global sourcing strategies, variant reduction and volume bundling.
Cost Engineering is a key player in our cost reduction efforts, either locally in new product projects, through CCI projects and benchmark workshops, or globally through module strategy.

Responsibilities
- Propose cost avoidance and reduction through bottom-up cost calculations for purchased parts based on the Daimler Cost Engineering methodology in tear down, cost driver analysis, product referencing, design consultancy etc.

- Provide transparency for gaps between price and cost calculation to the supplier, Engineering and Purchasing Departments.

- Identify saving potentials by benchmarking.

- Support derivation of cost targets for future and series parts.

- Represent Cost Engineering Team in cross functional project teams, support on site assessment of suppliers.

- Must be able to communicate and lead alignment with global colleagues from different departments

- Must be able to defend and explain calculations to internal customers and global partners and communicate Cost Engineering methodology to cross-functional partners

- Tear-down parts and evaluate material & purchased part costs

- Proactively offer continuous improvement ideas that improve quality, process, etc. and implement them

- Utilize tool cost calculation software and database Schmale for calculations & reports

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college required

- A degree focus in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering is preferred

- A Master's Degree of Engineering is preferred

- An attached resume is required

- Experience and interest in assembly/disassembly of parts/tool preferred

- Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) skills preferred

- Passionate about manufacturing technology and enjoys continuously learning preferred

- Experience in NX and SMARAGD preferred

- Experience leading projects across different cultures preferred

- Experience in purchasing and value analysis preferred
