Key Activities:
- Maximizes Amgen‘s value proposition of in-line and pipeline products through management and delivery of all medical and scientific activities across TA‘s in a Country
- Provides leadership and is the key Amgen spokesperson to external and internal bodies on medical and scientific issues related to Amgen’s products
- Leverages synergies across functions and TA‘s
- Guarantees conduct of medical and scientific activities according to all relevant regulations and SOP`s
- Integrates medical and scientific insight into Affiliate, Regional and Global strategies, plans and tactics
- Actively supports the Commercial Organization to promote the scientific and medical value of Amgen‘s products
- Drives management of KOL‘s, professional societies and other key customers in Country Affiliate and is senior corporate medical representative
- Plans and allocates Country MEDICAL Department resources
- Manages country execution of lifecycle management activities
- Collaborates with Safety to ensure compliance with PV/Safety requirements
- Collaborates with Regulatory Affairs to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements
- Participates in task forces and meetings
- Budgeting and forecasting
Context and Responsibilities
Reports to:
- Sub-Regional MD (Direct)
- Country Manager (Indirect)
Responsible for:
- Affiliate portfolio lifecycle management
- Recruitment, management and development of staff in the Country MEDICAL Affiliate Department
- Integration of Country MEDICAL Affiliate perspective across TA‘s into International and Global teams
- Country MEDICAL Affiliate spend and forecast accuracy
Decision Making Authority
- Departmental resource allocation
- Affiliate Budget Country MEDICAL Budget
- Signs off on appropriate documents (SOP’s, contracts etc.)
- Signs off on Direct Outside Expense at signature level
Preferred Role Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Competencies
Qualifications
- Medical education (Medical Doctor)
Experience
- > 8 years of clinical development experience, 5 years of which should be from a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
- Broad and formal leadership experience
Knowledge
- Pharmaceutical product development, product lifecycle and commercialization process with advanced understanding of other functions; including, but not limited to, Clinical Operations, Commercial, Regulatory, and Medical Affairs
- Therapeutic area knowledge
- Network of customer contacts in therapeutic area
- Knowledge of local pharmaceutical industry and legal/health system environment
- Finance/budgeting and resource management experience
- Track record of leadership
- The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position are typically acquired through the combination of education, experience and knowledge or the equivalent.
