Creative Arts - Childhood Education - Drama Focused - English Teacher

The Creative Arts domain describes the variety of artistic activities that allow children to use their imaginations, creativity, and express ideas in a variety of mediums. Included in this domain are indicators for dance, drama and theatre arts, music, and visual arts.

More on the Position Overview: Teacher will support student develop within the fundamental skills and techniques to ‘act in’, ‘assist with’, and ‘lead’ theatrical productions. The successful candidate will possess core acting skills from an accredited institution. Effective teaching abilities, while leading to directing and the skill-set for producing stage/theatre productions.

Moreover, active knowledge of theater history, creating a curriculum specifically for the Arts, with embedded classroom management. Arriving with positivity, enthusiasm, patience, and a passion for teaching drama to children ages 6-13 (kindergarten to 8th grade)--respectively. Students are eager to connect with the drama teaching staff. Candidate must enjoy working with children and understand the balance of encouragement, guiding, listening, being resourceful and steering our youth. Must enjoy working with children.

As a Drama Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering drama and theater arts instruction to students. This also includes teaching acting techniques, directing plays, adaptation, and/or creating scripts, fostering creativity, and promoting an appreciative environment for the performing arts. The Drama Teacher will work closely with students to help them develop these skills, self-confidence, and teamwork abilities.

Employment Package:
-Salary: ¥25k- ¥30k (depends on experience level) 12-month contract (before tax).

-Working hours per week: 40 hours including office hours.

Work schedule:
-Wed-Fri: 8:00-17:00 (depends on the schedule)
-Sat-Sun: 9:00-18:00
-Production schedules to be announced based upon student performances.

Class size:
-In the school- 25 students in each class
-In the center(s)- 10 students in each class

Class length:
-In the school- 35 to 40 minutes for a lesson
-In the center- 120 minutes for a lesson

Key Responsibilities:
-Curriculum Development: Develop and update curriculum materials for drama and theater arts classes, ensuring alignment with educational standards and goals.

Instruction and Creativity:
-Teach drama classes to students, covering topics such as acting techniques, voice projection, stage presence, and improvisation.
-Organize and lead rehearsals for school productions, guiding students in the development of their roles.
-Encourage creativity and self-expression among students through drama activities and exercises.
-Promote teamwork and collaboration in the production of plays and other theatrical projects.

Production Management:
-Select and direct school plays, musicals, or other theatrical productions. Script interpretation, script adaptation, script implementation.
-Adapt or create scripts as needed for productions, considering the age and proficiency of the students.
-Oversee all aspects of production, including casting, set design, costume selection, and technical elements.

Student Assessment:
-Evaluate and provide feedback to students on their performances and progress.
-Professionalism with parents of our clients and business partners.
-Maintain records of student achievements and participation.

Classroom Management:
-Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and creativity.
-Ensure the safety and well-being of students during drama activities and performances.
-Implement effective discipline strategies when necessary, fostering a respectful and supportive classroom atmosphere.

Professional Development:
-Stay updated on current trends and developments in drama and theater education.
-Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance teaching skills.

Qualifications and Requirements:
-Language: English, native speaker.
-Bachelor's degree in Language Arts. Theater Arts, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
-Teaching experience in drama or theater education.
-Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
