M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. In Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District, we are building one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world, with a bold ambition to establish ourselves as one of the world’s leading cultural institutions. Our aim is to create a new kind of museum that reflects our unique time and place, a museum that builds on Hong Kong’s historic balance of the local and international to define a distinctive and innovative voice for Asia’s twenty-first century.
You will be responsible for:
- directing and overseeing all phases of the Museum’s comprehensive learning and engagement programmes which encourages diverse, multi-generational and new audiences through engaging, accessible and relevant live programmes, extension activities, and collection-based learning resources with a focus on visual art, design, architecture and moving images;
- developing audience engagement philosophies and strategies that strengthen participation, expand partnership and foster active learning;
- cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with educators from schools to various community groups to connect museum collections and programming to teaching, research and outreach;
- enabling technologies, including online and on-site digital learning platforms that facilitates discovery and learning of the Museum’s content; and
- contributing to the general development of the future M+, including different stages of programming strategy, the evolution and implementation of the museum building, and other initiatives.
You should:
- possess a recognised university degree, preferably in Museum Education, Fine arts, Design, Architecture, Moving Images, Creative Media, Cultural Management or equivalent;
- have at least 10 years of working experience in leading learning and engagement programming in art and cultural sectors, including success in managing staff and all facets of work from research to programmes delivery;
- have proven experience of creating and implementing strategic development related to school, family, youth, community partnership and access initiatives;
- have strong research skills with demonstrated commitment to collection-based learning, and maintain up-to-date knowledge with the literature and practices of learning and engagement programming issues in contemporary museum;
- be a diplomatic and collaborative team player with proven leadership and facilitation skills; and
- have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
