Eaton’s Electrical Sector - Canada is currently seeking a Customs Coordinator to join our team. This position is based at our Burlington, ON location. Position Overview: The primary function of this position is to oversee the day-to-day importing, exporting and customs related activities of Eaton industries (Canada) Company. This includes but is not limited to maintaining the Customs Self-Assessment (CSA) program, updating and administering compliance policies, analyzing and approving products for classification and country of origin marking and labeling, monitoring and reviewing documentation, record keeping as mandated, annual reconciliation and duty assist evaluation. Coordination of release and accounting of all imported purchases in a “self-clearance” environment to ensure that transactions are processed in a timely and cost-effective manner with regard for compliance with customs rules and regulations and with Eaton policies and procedures. Preparation and coordination of export documentation and shipment release for all Canadian shipping locations. Making what matters work at Eaton takes the passion of every employee around the world. Essential Functions: Co-ordinates and verifies accuracy of documentation from international vendors to facilitate preparation of customs import transaction Prepares and submits transactions for release and CSA accounting via EDI to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Ottawa. Communicates with CBSA, Border Agents and Transportation providers to co-ordinate & expedite release of both import and export transactions. Provides internal customers with status of imported shipments. Prepares documentation required to facilitate shipment from all Canadian facilities to export customers and plants, ensuring that Canadian export regulations and specific requirements of the importing country are met. Communicates with all source plants and third party vendors to obtain required import documentation. Download items and shipments files daily from SAP/ORACLE to create MSR shipment reports for all divisions. Manage and process CSA shipments through MSR shipment reports and EDI customs broker. Research and determine the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification, tariff treatments and country of origins for new and existing part numbers. Review with the Centre of Excellence (COE) to ensure compliance with Canada customs. Create and maintain material numbers, vendors and importers in MSR’s database and ERP. Update and transmit B3 entries to Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) to ensure that the company is accounting for shipments within the correct Revenue Summary Form (RSF) period. Investigate and amend rejected transactions and retransmit to CBSA. Adjustments, refunds and X-types as required. Investigate and manually process overseas shipments by locating the invoices in ERP to determine correct valuations, items shipped and ship dates in order to enter the CSA shipment entry through MSR. Performs audits of import and export customs broker invoices and ensures that payment is processed with regard to minimization of brokerage expenses. Handles requests from CBSA and CBP for additional documentation/information on transactions, ensuring that responses are complete and timely. Provides Eaton Industries Canada (Company)and US locations with assistance with expediting and co-ordination of international shipments. Provides support to the Purchasing Department to facilitate classification for establishment of import duty levels on new products. Obtains NAFTA Certificates for Customers on Import shipments and prepares for shipping locations on export shipments. Ensures that certification is applicable and that Origin regulations are followed in certification of products. Provides support to peers in their daily activities relative to product classification, customs regulations and procedures. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: College diploma in trade compliance/finance from an accredited institution. Minimum 3 years of experience in Customs; supply chain and logistics Be legally authorized to work in Canada without the sponsorship of a company. No moving allowance is offered for this position. Only candidates residing within an 80 km radius of Burlington will be considered for this position Preferred Qualifications: Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Certification/Professional Designation Community College certificate in International Trade Practices (CIFFA / FITT) Three years experience in an Import/Export and Transportation related capacity Expertise in the area of Canadian and US Customs regulations Expertise in CSA related reporting environment Experience of working in MSR Import /Export software an asset Advanced PC Skills Excellent Communication & Presentation Skills Knowledge of Lean processes Basic Accounting Knowledge Position Criteria: Effective communication and coordination skills Ability to aid users and distributors We provide benefits that are industry competitive and focused on employee well-being.
