PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Customs Specialist position is responsible to achieve and maintain an effective, efficient, and compliant customs operations program for GE entities with special emphasis on internal controls that support the GET Global Customs Compliance Operating Policies and Strategies.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

Own day to day management of customs activities including:

• Serve as first escalation point for customs issues
• Customs service provider operational management
• Customs Process Analysis and Improvement
• Customs interface at tactical level with both service providers and relevant business stakeholders
• Broker /Agent Day to Day Operational Management
• Import /Export Customs Auditing
• Business Metrics collection & reporting
• Special Program and Free Trade Agreement Management and Trend Analysis
  • Data & Document Management
• Business Initiative Support
• Ensure maintenance and execution of Customs Standard Work Processes
• Establishment, evaluation and improvement of local customs processes
• Daily oversight of customs operational activities
• Working with cross-functional teams to drive improvement
• Balancing commercial requirements with adherence to regulatory requirements
• Operational management of multiple 3rd party service providers

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

• Operational Staff & 3rd party service providers
  

PERFORMANCE MEASURES:

• Operational Process Improvement
• Measurement and minimization of daily import/export exceptions
• Standard Work audit and execution
• Metrics Reporting and Data Analysis
• In-house Compliance training support

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree and 1+ year International Trade Compliance (Import and Export Operations) or equivalent 3+ years International Trade Compliance Experience (Import and Export Operations)
• Licensed Customs Broker or appropriate in country certification equivalent Preferred
• Working Knowledge of local customs and other regulatory agency requirements that relate to customs
• Self Directed, Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Strong background that reflects accomplishments in teamwork, integrity, responsibility, and attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a challenging environment
• Strong problem-solving and project management skills
• GE Transportation business knowledge a plus
