Brief Overview of Role:
- To ensure provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students, in accordance with the Philosophy and Objectives of Dulwich College Suzhou.
- To be the curriculum leader and be responsible for leading and developing all aspects of Junior School PE at Dulwich College Suzhou.
- To monitor and support the overall progress and development of all students.
- To effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the department as appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities
All teachers are subject to the conditions of employment set out in their Teaching Contract. This details the professional and particular duties required of teachers, together with benefits provided by the College.
The duties of a DUCKS PE Teacher at Dulwich College Suzhou are as follows:
Ensure that safeguarding, health and safety, and all other College policies are known, understood and embedded into practice;- Work with the Director of Sport & Head of Foundation Stage to contribute to whole college action plans.
- Maintain effective communication with the Head of DUCKS and Head of FS and other DUCKS PE Teaching staff
Contribute to the planning; producing, evaluating, developing and updating of curriculum documents and schemes of work for Key Stage.
- Contribute to the development of SoW that fit a long term progression approach.
- Ensure that all students are making progress within the subject areas and individual student needs are being addressed in lessons.
- Contribute to the development of effective forms of assessment, record keeping and target-setting for all students including those with AEN, ELL, More Able and any other specific learning needs.
- Contribute to communication with parents through such platforms as SeeSaw.
- Ensure continuity, consistency and progression are maintained across the subject.
- Liaise with relevant teachers to develop cross-curricular links.
- Keep up to date with international developments in the subject area with regards to curriculum development, teaching practice and methodology.
- Contribute to student reports within the Department
- Use formative assessment to inform planning and deliver a personalised curriculum for each child;
- Develop a nurturing and safe environment in which children thrive in their learning;
- Develop co-teaching relationships with ATs and ELL Teachers, developing a keen understanding of child development and language acquisition;
- Develop an environment of inquiry, where students’ questions are valued and lead their learning journey;
- Develop excellent relationships with parents and the wider community, through regular and effective communication;
- To have and develop further a range of techniques to cater for English Language Learners;
- To challenge each student to be the best they can be, supporting them to reach their full potential;
- To be committed to the ongoing development of a holistic, child-centred curriculum, drawing on best practice from around the world;
- Have a keen focus the approaches to learning taken by students, creating an engaging learning environment where they can learn independently, challenge their own thinking, think creatively and solve problems;
- Ensure that the learning environment is a place of full inclusivity, differentiating learning to support individual needs;
- Create and maintain student action plans, showing a clear understanding of children’s progress in learning, and demonstrating a proactive way of supporting them where barriers are found;
- Effectively support each student’s personal, social and emotional development
- Participate fully in the life of the school, including any co-curricular activities
- Engage in positive behavior management to ensure a caring and respectful environment.
Professional Development
- Engage in effective self- review of professional practice through termly Looking for Learning, as well as in the use of Engaging Spaces document;
- Show an awareness of current pedagogy and curriculum development in the UK and internationally;
- Always aim to push the professional limits and to try something new;
- Show accountability by setting professional learning targets according to the developmental needs of the school and College;
- Contribute to the identification and sharing of best practice across DCI
- Passionate about working with children and an ability to engage them in the process of learning
- Ability to listen to others (children, parents and colleagues) always showing respect for their ideas
- An understanding and excitement about working with people from all around the world
- Patience and flexibility in the work place, always showing willing to try new things
- Ability to proactively solve issues that arise
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with everyone in the school community

- A degree and recognised teaching qualification, postgraduate Diploma/Higher degree in education is preferred
- Evidence of relevant continual professional development
- A minimum of 2 years classroom experience
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the curriculum
- Awareness of current pedagogy and curriculum development
- An ability to promote each student’s learning through constant formative assessment within the classroom
- Effective use of ICT in all aspects of learning and teaching
- Understanding and commitment to safeguarding students
- Involvement in co-curricular programmes
- Experience of working in an international school is preferred
- Experience of teaching through Inquiry, and having a good understanding of what this means/ looks like in the classroom is preferred
- A solid understanding of child development, based on stage rather than age
