Dangerous Goods Specialist

Provides Dangerous Goods Specialist advice to the global business, achieving compliance with dangerous goods legislation and distribution activities. Manages Dangerous Goods related systems and processes. Works collaboratively and represents the team on projects as a DG expert, and applies knowledge to complex issues or business needs. Is expected to have professional DGSA (Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor) qualification or member of appropriate professional body.

  • Supports the global business in providing Dangerous Goods Specialist advice on complex issues and regulatory queries to ensure compliance with the international Dangerous Goods regulations for the effective and safe distribution of dangerous goods to prevent interruption to the manufacturing supply chain and R&D pipeline.

  • Working with other Safety, Health and Environment staff to produce and communicate SHE standards and responsibilities for line managers and staff.

  • Provides business with appropriate advice and support  on matters relating to Dangerous Goods.

  • Collaborates with other Functions to ensure Safety, Health and Environment assessments are carried out and advises business in specific areas where specialist knowledge is required to resolve complex or novel problems

  • Leads the resolution of complex Dangerous Goods related issues

  • Provides Dangerous Goods classifications to the global business, including Operations and R&D to agreed KPI’s

  • Monitors Dangerous Goods legislation, assessing impact and mitigating risk to the business.

  • Manages the content of team pages ensuring all Dangerous Goods related information is relevant and comprehensive.

  • Identifies improvements and opportunities in the Dangerous Goods area, supporting change initiatives to implement these.

  • Acts as the Dangerous Goods expert consultant and represents the team on projects involving Dangerous Goods.

  • Manages, writes and updates Dangerous Goods procedures and guidelines including the Global Procedure for the dispatch of materials from AZ sites, ensuring the business complies with national and international transport regulations.

  • Supports improvements and updates to team-related IT systems.

  • Maintains Regulatory expertise relevant to DG regulations

  • Supports on-going change management and continuous improvement

  • Provides expertise in the area of transport labels including maintenance of label template and creation.

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:

  • Degree level or equivalent

  • A high level of expertise in Global Dangerous Goods Legislations

  • Understanding of the Safety, Health and Environment function together with an understanding of either Research and Development or manufacturing processes, regulatory and compliance issues

  • Up to date with legislative changes and best practice developments

  • Technical qualifications for Dangerous Goods in accordance with ICAO, IMO and ECE (ADR) United Nation agencies regulations, including a DGSA (Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor) qualification.

  • Knowledge of relevant notifications, applications, and Health and Safety or Environmental Standards relevant to own area of activity

  • Experience of team working and networking in a matrix organisation, and significant experience working with customers.
     

Desirable:

  • Understanding of multiple aspects of Safety, Health and Environment

  • Experience in SAP EH&S software

  • Experience in classification accordance to CLP (GHS)

  • Project management experience

  • Supply Labelling requirements
