This is a role in the Devices Data Analytics Team within the Modern Life, Search and Devices group. Our team is responsible for developing global customer and marketing insights that drive and inform marketing and product development strategies for Microsoft’s first party devices. This includes developing an understanding of customers throughout the entire customer lifecycle - from acquisition to onboarding to cross-sell/up-sell and retention. The person in this role will be analyzing and providing aggregated insights around sales, engagement, monetization and satisfaction, collaborating with multiple stakeholder teams across Microsoft. Insights derived from analytics and reporting will be used to inform strategic product and business decisions, development of sales and marketing programs, and design of experiments and campaigns.


We are seeking a seasoned data analyst who also has experience program managing BI projects and who will bring unique quantitative perspectives/problem solving skills to this domain. The person in this role will also get the opportunity to work with multiple teams and stakeholders in Marketing, Sales, Finance and Engineering to execute action from insight, and drive for application of BI and analytical insights throughout different Microsoft device families.

Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert on the First Party Devices business
  • Deliver deep analytics around Microsoft First Party Devices sales, engagement, monetization and satisfaction
  • Regularly present insights and strategic recommendations to business partners and leadership
  • Collaborate with partners across Marketing, Finance, Sales, and Engineering to identify and align on key metrics to track business performance of Microsoft First Party Devices
  • Partner with Engineering to drive reporting projects that span the entire BI Stack - from data sourcing to insights visualization

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 1+ year of hands-on experience in data extraction, transformation, and/or analysis of large data sets
  • At least 1+ year of knowledge and experience with scripting/programming languages, SQL Server and/or tabular cubes

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience driving analytical and reporting projects end to end
  • Ability to take complex and/or technical concepts and present them in easy to understand business terminology
  • Excellent collaboration skills and effective in operating in a large matrixed organization
  • Experience in the full BI stack – big data, database, cube development, and data visualization programming frameworks (e.g. experience with technologies such as C#, SQL Server, SQL Analysis Services, Azure Data Lake, PowerBI, Tableau or similar)
  • Data science project and programming experience preferred (e.g. R, Matlab, Python, etc)
  • Experience working on analysis in the PC hardware industry preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or Engineering is required (Master’s is preferred), or relevant work experience.
