We are looking for a motivated, creative and forward-thinking individual to fill the role as a Datacenter Coordinator supporting our Global Data Center Manager and data processing footprint with particular attention to our North American sites. The individual in this job has direct management of the main Thermo Fisher Scientific datacenters in North America, as well as responsibility to enforce policy and provide oversight for the maintenance and upkeep of our NA data processing rooms at key regional sites.  A focus for this role is the creation of a matrixed team, with staff from the sites and business, which will provide a cohesive, uniform, and sustainable support model for our data processing facilities in this very diverse organization. This position is also a key player in our Cloud Transformation program helping to shape our Datacenter strategy to fit our global needs, and will provide for the scheduling, management and oversight of any decommission, construction or consolidation efforts in their assigned sphere.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Works with the Global Data Center Manager to proactively assess and manage data processing requirements. 
  • Serves as the technical lead providing expert guidance for projects involving data processing room closures, site consolidations and data center projects or capacity expansions. 
  • Oversees the assembly, compilation and management of a library/database of regional site information specific to the data processing facilities, including site and vendor contacts, physical plant equipment inventory, site capacity and capabilities, contract and maintenance schedules, and relevant drawings and diagrams.
  • Enforces standards, policies and operational practices around the operation and maintenance of Thermo Fisher’s North American data processing facilities.
  • Works closely with contractors, vendors and matrixed resources to ensure continued stable operations.
  • Acts as the relationship manager and responsible point of contact for our Cloud Hosting providers. 
  • Acts as liaison with site facilities teams that operate and maintain the data centers or data processing rooms in the region
  • As the subject matter expert on their capabilities, availability, and our overall utilization, will speak to any questions or concerns from executive leadership during emergency operations.
 
 
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology Management, Industrial Engineering or other technical field is desired, though direct and applicable professional experience in relevant IT or engineering fields may be considered for substitution.
  • 3 years of experience managing datacenters for mid- to large-sized companies.  Responsible areas should include power, cooling, space planning, fire suppression and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage outside vendors and contractors for service delivery; able to ensure work is delivered on time, to standard and within budget.  Experience working with or managing the relationship with a cloud-hosting provider is a large plus.
  • Background and experience working in a “matrixed” organization with remote and/or “dotted line” staff in a geographically diverse company.
  • Background and experience working in an enterprise environment with mature Incident Management, Change Management and Problem Management processes.
  • Solid communication skills, both written and verbal, are a hard requirement for this high profile position. Must be able to work effectively with a diverse technical and business staff outside of his/her own organization to achieve goals.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, HVAC, security and fire suppression systems utilize in supporting a raised floor, enterprise data center
  • Working knowledge of IT components for network, server, storage, telecommunications and network security environments
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally, as required from time to time, to various sites for inspection, coordination and oversight of the facilities during major consolidation or upgrade projects.
