The Critical Facilities organization provides physically secure, environmentally stable, high availability hosting services. In conjunction with the rest of Infrastructure Operations and Service Delivery (IOSD), the organization delivers managed facility, server, storage, authentication, and DNS services to Enterprise Technology clients. The Critical Facilities team plays a dual role, managing the data center facility and its assets (directly or through remote smart hands) and providing system administration and break/fit support for the as directed by the Platform and or Network Operations team.

Responsibilities:

The Data Center Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for supporting Critical Facilities managed facility services; working with the rest of the Critical Facilities staff, while working on independent projects as assigned. The successful candidate will:
  • Responsible for overall management, support, and successful deployment of the Data Center cable plant
  • Ensures that Cable Plant best practices are being adhered to in the areas of design, installation, testing / certification and documentation
  • Provide Support to the IOSD Customer Base
  • Timely resolution and/or escalation of customer issues
  • Maintain a level of professionalism while engaging with customers
  • Troubleshoot and document technical issues using the IOSD ticketing system
  • Interface with other team members in the IOSD organization to support deployments, technology evaluations, or other efforts requiring facility involvement
  • Oversee all equipment installations and drive space planning activities
  • Drive Infrastructure and Electrical capacity planning activities
  • Follow IOSD Support processes and procedures
  • Assist in Facility Operations
  • Complete Facility Rounds
  • Secure receipt and shipping of packages
  • General data center upkeep
  • Follow Critical Facilities data center policies and procedures
  • Participate in Facility Training Programs
  • Work on tasks assigned by DC Manager or Lead
  • Provide local support for Segment Colocation customers (e.g. Non-IOSD) equipment
  • Assist and/or complete physical installations and provide assistance as directed, for logical configurations of IOSD services
  • Update all relevant and required documentation
  • Manage assigned workflow tasks in order to provide timely turnaround to customers

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3-7 years experience supporting high-performance server configurations in a 24x7 enterprise data center environment, including:
    • Data Center IT operations: rack, cable, and maintain servers and devices, deploy lights-out hardware management, manage par stock / inventory
    • Data Center Facility operations: power/cooling, rack planning, cabling, maintenance
  • Familiarity with data center power distribution & cooling technologies (including UPS, ATS, RPP, PDU, POU), device and environmental monitoring, fire systems, and basic electrical concepts such as power, current, and voltage
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP fundamentals and related protocols and applications (primarily DNS and HTTP)
  • Familiarity with service management principles (change/incident/problem management, CMDB)
  • Strong experince (3+ years) installing and testing structured cabling (copper and fiber)
  • Deep understanding of Data Center fiber and copper cabling installation, patching, and Industry Standard best practices
  • Indepth experience with structured cable testing (copper & fiber; wire map, performance, power meter or OTDR)
  • Familarity with MS Office Suite, especially Visio
  • Intermediate level skill with MS Windows OS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years experience supporting high-performance server configurations in a 24x7 enterprise data center environment, including:
    • Data Center IT operations: rack, cable, and maintain servers and devices, deploy lights-out hardware management, manage par stock / inventory
    • Data Center Facility operations: power/cooling, rack planning, cabling, maintenance
  • Experince with data center power distribution & cooling technologies (including UPS, ATS, RPP, PDU, POU), device and environmental monitoring, fire systems, and basic electrical concepts such as power, current, and voltage
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and related protocols and applications (primarily DNS and HTTP)
  • Solid understanding of server hardware, RAID technologies and their implementations, and SAN/NAS concepts
  • Familiarity with service management principles (change/incident/problem management, CMDB)
  • Strong experince (5+ years) installing and testing structured cabling (copper and fiber)
  • Deep understanding of Data Center fiber and copper cabling installation, patching, and Industry Standard best practices
  • Indepth experience with structured cable testing (copper & fiber; wire map, performance, power meter or OTDR)
  • BICSI RCDD qualified or working towards the qualification
  • Experince with Command line driven OS’s (*nix, etc.) a plus
  • Experience with Cisco IOS a plus

Required Education

  • An Associate degree in any Information Technology Field or 3-7 years of equivalent experience in a related field

Preferred Education

  • A bachelor's degree in any Information Technology Field or 5-10 years of equivalent experience in a related field
