About the role:
The Data Governance Manager role has been introduced to RWS Group Technology following the acquisition of SDL. This change in organisational construct is driving the need to review, rationalize & refine the currently diverse operating models within the two organisations. You will be responsible for defining and governing the group data model, global data catalogue and meta data management strategy.
You will be seen as a trusted advisor on behalf of group data across the organisation with development operations, business applications and IT.

This is a full-time role that’s based in our Maidenhead office, but we expect to maintain a culture of flexibility and a mix of WFH and office time.
What you’ll do:
* Lead and manage all organization-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for improving the quality and managing the protection of sensitive data and information assets
* Provide guidance as to how data quality and meta data management should be embedded in business processes & systems
* Design and maintain our group data model in line with our long-term business objectives
* Develop data management projects that move the company closer to its future goals
* Designing a data infrastructure that supports complex analytics services
* Providing technical leadership and direction for the companies engineering team
* Take ownership of the definition and governance of the Enterprise Data Model, Data Architecture, Data Catalogue, Meta Data Management and related capabilities for the newly combined business entity.
* Support the alignment of data governance across the combined organisation and enforce through solution reviews and audits
* Drive the creation and implementation of data governance policies, processes and standards
* Advise on the duplications & conflicts within the data models of the RWS Group (originating from the different entities) and identify practical solutions for aligning the data models.
* Building effective relationships with senior technical staff so there is a common understanding of goals and challenges
What we’re looking for:
* Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, MIS, or Information Management
* 5-10 years of data governance experience, ideally from an IT consultancy / system integrator or global company
* Experience with assessing and implementing enterprise-wide meta data management tools, data models and data catalogues
* Knowledge of information principles and policies.
* An expert understanding of data integration
* Strategic mind-set with the ability to focus on the “bigger picture”
* A strong understanding of database technologies including innovations and emerging tech in this space (NoSQL databases)
* Strong written and oral communication skills, including comfort presenting findings at a leadership level
* Highest personal and professional integrity and strong work ethics
* Ability to articulate vision of transformation efforts and a sense of mission
* Willingness to take change and provide direction
* Results orientation, willingness to commit to a direction and drive operations to completion
* Demonstrated ability to manage adversity and challenging situations
