YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Data Science Intern, are to: 

• Analyze gene expression in crop genomes, using advanced mathematical models, machine learning algorithms and/or statistical analyses;
• Develop tools to make genomic data accessible to other scientists;
• Perform computational work within the Amazon Web Services cloud environment.

Required Qualifications:

• Pursing a graduate degree in one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Statistical Genetics, Biostatistics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, or other related quantitative discipline;
• Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Python and/or R);
• Experience analyzing sequencing data sets and/or machine learning;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Must be returning to continue or complete program of study following their summer internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Domain knowledge in multiple sciences (ex. gene expression/plant biology, bioinformatics, genomics, computer science);
• Familiarity with Linux shell scripting in a cloud environment.
