The Data Scientist is responsible for driving the implementation of data driven decision making at BMW NA through the collection, cleaning and aggregation of data aligned with business goals and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will be intricately involved in running analytical experiments in a methodical manner and will regularly evaluate alternate models via theoretical approaches. This includes using experimental frameworks for product development and machine learning with the aim to lay a strong data foundation for robust analytics on business and industry data.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and transfers know-how for AI and deep learning on key projects.
- Analyzes business critical data and recommends improvements. Works with large data sets from inside and outside sources (e.g. internal data, social media, warranty data, sales, finance, manufacturing etc.).
- Conducts advanced analytical tasks, such data conversions, ETL, filtering, fusion, aggregations and data mining.
- Manages projects in the area of smart analytics.
- Advises feature team members on latest data analytics technologies and assists the team in process matters as related to development/support and provides the necessary on the job training and development of associates/contractors within the team. Transfers know-how needed for the digitalization transformation.
- Maintains accurate, meaningful and updated technical and non-technical documentation pertaining to all aspects of area(s) of responsibility and performs tasks as required by the responsible management team in data science.
- Ability to develop from complex data analysis web-based solutions for business use in understanding data. Data communicated can have impact on strategy, sustainability, risk, and P&L as well as indicate where fraud and forensic analysis is necessary.
- Interdisciplinary responsibility, e.g. across Sales, Aftersales, Finance and Engineering: External to locations in other business units can serve as valuable indicators of customer sales, marketing, warranty claims and product design – quality for engineering integration feedback into various company data lakes.
- Prepares and documents standard operating procedures and protocols as well as required system documentation.
- Supports operational excellence goals through strong operations knowledge
- Defines new disruptive processes, approaches, and tools in the space of data science and machine learning, having an impact in business decision making executive and management levels
- Works with team members to build systems and processes that improve efficiency and competitive posture of the company
- Consulted in outlining the technology/process vision in area of responsibility

- 5+ Years of demonstrated success in Information Technology, with at least
- 3+ Years in a mid-level engineering role, and
- 3+ Years specializing in Data Science, Machine Learning or related discipline
- 1+ Years working in Agile projects
- 5+ Years experience with Tableau, Qlik, and similar data visualization tools
- 5+ Years experience with Python or R and relevant Data-Science Modules
- 3+ Years experience with SQL
- 5+ Years experience with data lake and data hub technologies, e.g. Hadoop and respective cloud data storage and data mining solutions
- 2+ Years experience with AWS technologies (EC2, Redshift, S3, Sagemaker)
