Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Deputy Director Business Development Out Licensing, are to: 

 

  • Drive the overall divestment strategy and tactics for identifying, assessing and partnering assets for continued growth of Bayer’s out licensing portfolio of pre commercialization assets;
  • Provide guidance and updates to BD&L and other senior management on transaction progress;
  • Implement the established framework, processes, tools and templates that lead to value delivery and suggest process improvements to manager as part of continuous improvement process;
  • Support and where appropriate lead deal negotiations, due diligence, separation planning and execution;
  • Identify priorities, progress and risks associated with each project;
  • Develop value creation and risk mitigations for each project;
  • Conduct lessons learned and identify best practices;
  • Prioritize effectively multiple opportunities while coordinating the workflow;
  • Build and leverage a network of connections in the academic, biotechnology and pharma world to raise awareness of Bayer’s partnering objectives and capabilities;
  • Work with manager and key stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive and ensure effective communication, efficient decision-making, and completion of transactions in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or science or related discipline; Ph.D. in a life sciences/medical field, M.D. or Pharm.D. preferred.
  • At least five years of pharmaceutical experience in commercial or BD&L roles; Practical experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry of at least two years in any area of drug development, such as Discovery, Preclinical Development, Clinical Development or Regulatory Affairs, preferred
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills to lead/manage cross-functional teams in preparing partnering opportunities and preparation for due diligence to enable decision making;
  • Broad pharma industry experience (biotech, biopharma, academic tech transfer, management consulting);
  • Ability to drive projects and teams to deliver timely results, enable well-informed, fact based decision-making and follow through on internal and external commitments;
  • Effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving skills along with strong scientific understanding and business acumen to engage with internal stakeholders and external partners;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize while balancing many projects and adept at utilizing databases and technology to increase efficiency for the broader team;
  • Strong existing network and networking skills to reach out to a broad range of industry decision makers to keep abreast of emerging opportunities;
  • Be willing to travel up to 30-50% of the time for opportunities and conferences as needed;
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, strong presentation skills;
  • Be a team player, builds strong relationships internally for effective and high-throughput handling of assessments and externally to source compelling opportunities and to raise the visibility for Bayer as a strong and focused partner;
  • Has a good grasp of the pharmaceutical landscape and is a quick learner and shows a demonstrated capability to drive projects through the system;
  • Proactive, drives results, accountable good sourcing instincts and ability to convey and frame opportunities to various functions and senior management internally and externally.
