Design Cost Engineer Lead
LenovoKaohsiung, twnUpdate time: August 5,2020
Job Description
#### Position Description:

Lenovo’s Data Center Group is currently seeking a dynamic, creative, and
inquisitive engineer with deep technical and organizational skills to join our
new Design Cost Optimization team within Server Development. In this exciting
position you will be part of an innovative group responsible for enhancing and
accelerating the cost competitiveness of our server, storage, and networking
portfolio, a critical factor in Lenovo DCG’s future success.

Cost optimization is the art and science of designing products that achieve
the customer-valued marketing requirements at the lowest possible manufactured
cost – it’s all about bang for the buck! In the ultra-competitive datacenter
business, bids are won and lost by the thinnest of margins - having a fully
optimized design can give the company an edge that is difficult to overcome.
Cost optimization is multi-faceted, balancing electrical engineering,
mechanical engineering, thermal and power engineering, manufacturing, and
supply chain influences. The best solution is rarely achieved with one bold
stroke, but with a hard-fought series of incremental improvements and
adjustments.

#### Position Requirements:

The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of system design experience, have
considerable knowledge of a particular engineering discipline, but also be
knowledgeable in other technical fields. They’ll be ever curious about how to
find better ways to accomplish standard tasks, have strong investigative and
analytical senses, and prone to seeking out new ways to accomplish existing
product functions. He or she will thrive leading others in a multi-geography,
multi-cultural environment, understand the give and take of working in a
large, multi-discipline organization, and revel in the opportunity to be a
part of integrating design-for-cost discipline into the development culture.
Last but not least, they’ll be able to help other engineers cost optimize
their designs by working one-on-one, focusing on the collaborative progress
without emphasizing their own contributions.
