Digital Front-End Algorithm Engineer
Analog DevicesBostonUpdate time: March 31,2022
Job Description

Analog Devices (NASDAQ: ADI) designs and manufactures semiconductor products and solutions. We enable our customers to interpret the world around us by intelligently bridging the physical and digital worlds with unmatched technologies that sense, measure and connect.

In ADI’s drive to provide solutions for the next generation of 5G communications infrastructure, integration of the Digital-Front End (DFE) is a major step forward in adding value to radio transceiver and related products. The classic DFE consists of Digital Up/Down Conversion, Crest Factor Reduction and Digital Predistortion. Other algorithms will also play a role as the application evolves.

To support those activities the Wireless Communication Business unit is seeking a DFE Algorithm Engineer. The successful candidate will join an existing team of algorithm developers and systems architects and develop implementable algorithm solutions for DUC/DDC, CFR and DPD, and the system ensemble. A central part of the role will be the development of hardware platforms, consisting of industry-standard radio and power amplifier subsystems and measurements, and simulation environments which you will use to verify and refine algorithms designed by yourself and the team.

As a member of a wireless system team, you will have opportunities to work alongside industry experts and the various product teams inside the wireless organization.  You will have the opportunity to engage with the wider aspects of the system and product development process including planning, design, sourcing, debugging/test, and documentation. Close interaction with applications and marketing engineers is expected. Your outlook will be to bring algorithm developments to a real-world implementation. The role will include collaboration with product teams at other ADI sites and possibly also with customers, either of which may require occasional travel.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define and develop algorithm solutions for DFE
  • Define and develop algorithm solutions for DFE-PHY-RF end-to-end solutions
  • Maintain platforms for hardware verification.
  • Develop processes to evaluate the algorithmic performance and perform characterisation of silicon and software implementations.
  • Pro-active in seeking optimizations in both the algorithm and the characterization process.
  • Communicate value through documentation, presentation and demonstration platforms. Provide direct support for early adopters.

Qualifications

Candidate Credentials

BS/MS/PhD or Dipl.-Ing/Dr.-Ing in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience including some or all the following aspects:

  • RF and microwave components, systems and measurements
  • Laboratory automation
  • Detailed knowledge of MATLAB
  • Prior knowledge of DFE functions, particularly DPD
  • Strong background in signal processing and communication systems
  • Numerical and non-numerical algorithms
  • Software Engineering
  • DSP programming
  • Digital system design, HDL, FPGA, ASIC
  • Understanding of LTE/NR downlink signals.
  • LTE/NR PHY algorithms and link-level simulation

Strong communication skills are essential. An enquiring and flexible attitude to work and learning, enthusiasm, dedication and strong goal-solution orientation are valued as much as any particular skill.
