Advances in digitalization, data and advance analytics are changing industries at pace with the pharma industry showing signs of movement

The Digital Health Market will grow exponentially over the next 3 years, with new applications in digital showing in phase 3 studies significant benefits for patients including overall survival in Cancer

AstraZeneca would like to leap frog in this area and has prioritized digital in R&D as a critical strategic area of focus by 2025, as part of the overall company strategy.

Digital Health R&D’s ambition is to transform healthcare, powered by digital, science and collaborations,
to deliver the healthcare outcomes and experience that patients care about the most.

The Digital Health R&D journey incorporates 3 key stages:

  • Stage 1 – foundational, reimagine how we work, by maximizing the use of digital, data and analytics transform processes within R&D to gain significant benefits on speed of the portfolio (goal 9 months acceleration) productivity (goal -20% reduction in cost per patient per year) quality at source, patient experience and probability of success.
  • Stage 2 – advanced, redefine clinical trials and digital health to improve overall patient experiences and outcomes, example redefining patient populations, remote clinical trials, patient apps to reduce/manage adverse events and improve patient outcomes (OS), using data from EHMr and RWE instead of control arms, and through PROs and continuous patient monitoring, creating new end points enabling studies in earlier stages of disease (ctDNA changes) prolonging significantly patients’ lives
  • Stage 3 – future-readiness, reimagine healthcare, examples, AZ as a healthcare provider beyond medicines for certain indications (example: Breast Cancer, proving monitoring, predictive analytics and therapies for improved outcomes)

This role will be responsible for planning, analysing and mapping a wide range of activities, related to current and future process improvements driven from Digital Health R&D. You will work with the Digital Health R&D Product Management community, cross-functional Subject Matter Experts and Process Owners to develop the future process driven by the activities of Digital Health R&D, which form an important component of our overall Implementation Plans. You are a recognised expert within own field and often the first point of contact for specialist process queries.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Partner with the Digital Health R&D Product Management community, who have overall responsibility for the products and services being delivered to define, develop, document and describe the future processes
  • Using standard process mapping tools, templates and methodology, map future Digital Health R&D processes, including provisional view of information flow
  • Engage with Digital Health R&D teams, customers, Subject Matter Experts, Development Operations and Operational Exercise and IT (Architects and Domain Business Analysts) to ensure the future process captures diverse requirements
  • Coordinate with the current Process Owners and Subject Matter Experts across the business to understand how the current processes will be impacted by Digital Health R&D work packages
  • Propose the staged evolution of the current to the future process, aligned with the rollout plans of the new Digital Health R&D solutions
  • Collaborate with the Digital Health R&D Change and Capability Team and with other Process Leads (e.g., Regulatory, Safety, Dev Ops, OE etc) to deliver the joint accountability of a having a single integrated process
  • Coordinate across Digital Health R&D with training partners from the Digital Health R&D workstream on training needs analysis and requirements and provide process-related content to support the production of new training materials
  • Acts as a source of knowledge in one or more areas of Digital Health R&D, defining and communicating current and future business improvement needs and opportunities
  • Maintains the process and technology for identifying and tracking continuous improvement initiatives
  • Prioritises business improvement issues and delivers own business improvement findings and recommendations to a cross-functional team
  • Enables cross-functional sharing of business improvement ideas by ensuring adequate systems and processes for recording data in a centrally accessible manner

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline
  • Significant experience in process definition and documentation
  • Strong understanding of R&D Business and associated current processes
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills to drive alignment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal leadership skills
  • Capacity to embrace change and quickly adapt to new situations, changes in direction, and altering priorities
  • Conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking
  • Customer focus -- dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Strong bias for action and results
  • Knowledge and experience with internal and external suppliers and solutions
  • Excellent business acumen with sensitivity to environment
