To ensure our customers have great experiences with our devices, we are reinventing the way people interact with Microsoft devices – Surface, Surface Hub, HoloLens, Xbox and new devices categories. This is a unique experience to be part of transforming the way we help customers and developing a new business.

We are looking for a Dimensional Management Engineer within a cross product engineering team to support all Microsoft Devices development. Working closely with product development engineers as well as manufacturing launch engineers, the dimensional engineer will provide guidance to optimize the design and process to meet functional objectives while balancing cost and dimensional variation.

The deliverables of the Dimensional Management Engineer include identifying functional interfaces of component and system designs, evaluating measurement data and measurement methods, providing best practices for applied GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and perform computer aided tolerance evaluations of the subsystem designs.

Responsibilities

The Dimensional Management Engineer will need to:

  • Work with manufacturing vendors during the development of the dimensional controls to ensure the quality tradeoff in between functionality and manufacturability.
  • Support measurement systems analysis otherwise known as Gage R&R either at supplier facilities or in Redmond as needed. Travel may be required.
  • Participate or lead a measurement planning activity. This includes guiding checking or holding fixture design and working with a fixture design team.
  • Provide feedback to the program team as to the capabilities and limits of any chosen supplier relating to measurement equipment or training.    Feedback is detailed according to each important feature in the design.
  • Provide guidance on Datum selections, Measurements and GD&T application in accordance with ASME standards. Direct and monitor the development of the GD&T schemes of the models to meet ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Work in CAD systems to identify functional interfaces of component and system designs.
