Reporting to Pro-Vice-Chancellor (External Affairs & Institutional Advancement) via an Associate Vice-President, the appointee will oversee and be responsible for planning, managing and implementing initiatives and activities that increase, diversify and sustain philanthropic support for the University. The Director must create and execute development plans that utilize best practices in planned donation schemes to meet fundraising goals; maintain a dynamic portfolio of major offering prospects in all phases of identification, cultivation, and stewardship with current donors; develop strategies and plans for solicitation of prospective donors; and work in partnership with other units of the University, such as Colleges and the Alumni Affairs Office, to inspire full engagement and identify key giving prospects.
The appointee should possess (i) a Bachelor’s degree, a higher and/or professional degree preferred; (ii) ample years of progressively responsible and fundraising and managerial experience in advancement, preferably within a complex university setting; (iii) strong understanding of best practices in all key areas of advancement; substantial experience with comprehensive and capital fundraising campaigns; (iv) proven track record of successfully cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts/donations; (v) demonstrated people management skills and record of accomplishment building a high-performing fundraising team, including recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and evaluating staff; (vi) proven negotiating and marketing skills; (vii) excellent projects/activities planning and implementation, management and presentation skills; and (viii) excellent communication skills with high level of proficiency in both English and Chinese (including Putonghua).
Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to mutual agreement. The University reserves the right to fill the post by invitation.
