Purpose: The Director, BTS position will provide leadership to expedite, manage and coordinate a multitude of interrelated IT project activities supporting the R&D oncology franchise located primarily in South San Francisco within the constraints of human and financial resources and changing priorities to ensure the successful completion of projects in support of the advancement of AbbVie’s oncology pipeline. Key objectives include the identification, evaluation and implementation of IT systems, process improvements and data visualizations that will advance AbbVie’s oncology science. The position will work directly with Strategic Business and Executive IT management to establish project portfolios, project delivery and R&D technology support. The position will represent the overall BTS organization at AbbVie’s South San Francisco site and lead the coordination of activities and change management communications that pertain to the whole of BTS. Responsibilities: Manage a team that works with business leadership to understand, develop and continuously improve oncology R&D’s technology-enabled business processes. Manage delivery organizations that deliver, maintain and improve IT technologies used in laboratory, in-silico and computer modeling commonly used in oncology R&D settings. Perform personnel and team development activities to build a continuously thriving and improving culture, dynamic and leadership pipeline. Build a portfolio of initiatives for oncology R&D comprised of delivery from both this position’s team as well as partner and corporate IT teams that develop technology for R&D. Partner and influence other IT executives and leadership to form harmonized roadmaps and delivery portfolios that leverage cross-IT teams to build technology for oncology R&D while minimizing duplicate systems or technologies. Deliver initiatives assigned to this position’s delivery organizations to meet project goals, project budgets and service expectations. Represent BTS as the BTS site lead in councils, escalations or other functions related of cross-departmental leadership for the South San Francisco location. Lead cross-BTS activities, change management and communication delivery for all BTS organizations in South San Francisco, for activities that affect all of BTS. Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and 12+ years of experience. Masters degree and work experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred. Will consider 14+ years of relevant experience in a related technical field. Life science experience is highly preferred Key competencies include: Knowledge of discovery sciences, preferably in oncology Aptitude in understanding scientific problems Aptitude in understanding the building blocks of technology that can be combined in novel fashion to solve scientific problems Exposure to high performance compute, storage, containers, cloud and other underlying technologies that support IT systems used in scientific discovery Aptitude in managing and developing a high performance delivery and business relationship management team Financial and portfolio management skills Aptitude in influencing and collaborating with disparate teams and their leaders to conform into a common direction and objective that supports oncology R&D Aptitude in managing and influencing senior executives through communication skills, presentation skills, expectation management and other influencing skills Must be comfortable with ambiguity, demonstrate strong writing, problem solving and creative thinking Significant Work Activities Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day) Travel Yes, 5 % of the Time Job Type Experienced Schedule Full-time Job Level Code D Equal Employment Opportunity At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
