Late Development Oncology
Within Late Development Oncology, we push the boundaries of science to change the practice of medicine and transform the lives of patients living with cancer.
We take an inter-disciplinary approach including novel biomarkers, AI, novel endpoints and cutting-edge trial designs to shape the future of our business and Oncology. To be most effective, we've chosen to concentrate on four key tumor areas; GI, Lung Cancer, Breast Cancer and GU.
With one of the broadest and deepest Oncology pipelines in the industry, there are many opportunities to work with new and novel drugs and help discover what’s next. Supportive team players, we draw on diverse knowledge from across the business and external partners to come to bear on the toughest medical challenges.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate and ensure Oncology LT oversight of key objectives and scorecards, through BPO dashboards and Digital platforms.
- Support Country performance oversight through the coordination of Country Business Reviews
- Ensure end to end oversight of Oncology SMM resources, from portfolio demand, resources country allocation & approvals, resource utilization.
- Build and execute Oncology SMM staffing strategy to support footprint strategy
- Build and support Oncology SMM communication strategy
- Leads sophisticated pivotal initiatives including planning and implementation with little/no direction
- Work across AZ with relevant partners, such as BioPharma SMM, Early Development, Hematology, Finance, HR, Procurement etc. to agree roles and responsibilities to ensure efficient delivery of key operational activities to Oncology SMM
- Optimise strategic planning & internal/external teamwork across group and provide key input to business planning updates as needed
- Job Dimensions
- The jobholder requires a high level of cultural sensitivity, interactive communication, negotiation and effective teamwork. This necessitates considerable tact, discretion and persuasion to acquire desired outcomes while maintaining ongoing professional relationships.
Essential for the role
- Advanced degree(s) in business and/or scientific discipline. Likely to have a project or business management qualification.
- Significant number of years’ experience working in the drug development/pharmaceutical business in a matrix environment
- Validated thinking, experience of strategic project/program/change implementation (incl experience of strategic frameworks and business analysis)
- Significant experience of Portfolio/Project management in a large and sophisticated business environment, preferably within an environment.
- Strong financial skills and experience of managing budgets in a complex matrix organisation.
- Leadership skills, including the ability to solve problems that involve decision makers, and develop options / recommendations
- Extensive networking skills, ability to interact widely and effectively with leaders both within the function (on both an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary basis) and external to the function
- Validated leadership skills in accordance with AstraZeneca leadership capabilities
- Excellent influencing skills to enable effective management and communication to internal and external partners at the highest levels in AZ appropriately across a range of cultures
- Validated high level of strategic and analytical thinking, problem solving and influencing skills to provide direction to team or organisation
- Capable of making effective decisions, acts courageously and communicates with conviction at all levels.
- Ability to assimilate sophisticated information and identify key issues and messages
Desirable for the role
- Extensive knowledge of all project management tools and processes
- Experience and skilled at facilitation and negotiation at senior levels
