Director, Discovery Biomarkers

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead Amgen’s Discovery Biomarkers team and be based in South San Francisco, California.

The Director will be a key strategic partner in prioritizing and coordinating cross-functional activities for drug targets in Immuno-Oncology, Inflammation, and Cardiometabolic disorders therapeutic areas.

• Supervise a group conducting discovery biomarker research
• Support the group in interactions with the therapeutic area biology teams, computational biology, clinical biomarkers, and clinical development to identify the most promising biomarkers for drug targets
• Discover and prioritize disease stratification and target engagement biomarker candidates for multiple pipeline projects
• Generate and transition key pharmacodynamic and patient stratification biomarker discovery data to support clinical biomarker assay development
• Individuals with broad experience in cell and molecular biology and biochemistry and knowledge of the principles of biomarker identification are particularly encouraged to apply

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree (PhD and/or MD) and 4 years of academic or industry experience in Immunology-Oncology, Inflammation, or Cardiometabolic disorders, or combinations thereof, and experience in biomarker identification

Or

Master’s degree and 7 years of academic or industry experience in Immunology-Oncology, Inflammation, or Cardiometabolic disorders, or combinations thereof, and experience in biomarker identification

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of academic or industry experience Immunology-Oncology, Inflammation, or Cardiometabolic disorders, or combinations thereof, and experience in biomarker identification

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate degree (PhD and/or MD) & 7-10 years of work experience
• Significant experience as evidenced in peer reviewed publications and patent submissions
• Management experience is essential
• Strong skills in integrating data derived from unbiased and genome wide methodologies, including RNA-seq, proteomics, and metabolomics. This work will involve use of preclinical models and human samples and will be performed in collaboration with computational biologists and human geneticists.
• Strong working knowledge of the principles and application of population human biology, in order to effectively collaborate with scientists from deCODE Genetics.
• Experience in biomarker discovery, evaluation, and validation
• Track record of creative problem-solving and enthusiasm for taking on difficult research challenges
• Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Desire to be a group leader in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, particularly with colleagues from deCODE Genetics and Amgen’s Global Development Organization.
