Job Description

Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services and Systems division is hiring a Director Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to join our team for the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) product line. This position will be based out of our Burlington, Ontario office.

Position Overview:

This position is accountable for the development and execution of the Electrical Sector’s “Energy Transition” growth strategy, which addresses a global trend towards decarbonization, the resulting rise of renewables, and need for more flexible grid capacity.  This role will manage all commercial and P&L responsibility for Energy Transition in Canada and specifically Distributed Energy Resources (DER). 

The incumbent works in close collaboration with the US EESS division to  directly shape, manage and lead Eaton Canada’s product/service portfolio, go-to-market strategy and commercial strategy for intelligent microgrids as well as complete Eaton packages centered around microgrids, with collaboration on energy storage strategy. Significant focus is on business development, Eaton branding, as well as fostering partnerships with external stakeholders including; government, financial institutions and channel partners. 

In this function you will:

  • Lead and own the strategic planning for the business unit, including the marketing, sales, engineering, operational and financial plans
  • Profit and loss responsibility for the business unit to meet revenue and margin objectives
  • Build close relationships with key customers and or governmental organizations at a high (C) level to enhance customer satisfactions and long-term prospects
  • Collaborate and build partnerships with other product lines and/or companies/firms, to create marketing solutions and synergies for specific industries/segments/opportunities
  • Recruit, manage, and effectively coach the DER Canada team
  • Be a voice of the customer and setting appropriate expectations, goal weightings and targets with the other division functions and sales/channel organizations
  • Report financial results and forecasts to key stakeholders
  • Serve as the business unit spokesperson in key customer interactions and negotiate long term contracts with customers as needed
  • Work closely with channel, major accounts, global product line teams, and segment managers and provide overall leadership on bring the DER business unit to market
  • Communicate and present strategy and results to Senior Leadership
  • Develop, deploy and execute pricing strategy to meet revenue, share and profitability targets
  • Develop Profit Plan for the Business Unit and all its supporting manufacturing facilities
  • Work with marcom team to support the promotion of products; including traditional promotional materials as well as on-line and multimedia assets

Qualifications

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Technologist diploma from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience managing direct reports
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in technical marketing, sales, strategic planning, operations or product line management
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of experience in market analysis, product launches, and budget management.
  • 5 years of experience in providing sales/field support and customer/industry presentation
  • Experience is “C” level selling and or selling to government entities
  • Experience working in the distributed energy resource market such as product technology or segment (utility, government, renewable energy, microgrids, energy storage, electrical vehicles, etc.), competitive landscape, partnerships, and/or deal structures
  • Experience working with product configuration tools (e.g. Bid Manager take-offs)
  • Bilingual in both English and French
  • Knowledge of market trends and competitive landscape (direct and adjacent), while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the product applications

Position Criteria:

  • Must be able to travel up to 30%, some international
  • Must be highly analytical, critical thinker and comfortable in dealing with ambiguity
  • Must be comfortable working in matrix organization to drive collaboration and decision making
  • Must be able to communicate effectively at a variety of different organizational levels
  • Ability to synthesize disparate any complex information and simplify into effective presentations and recommendations to facilitate decision making with senior leaders
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills required
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills, especially developing business opportunity cases
  • Ability to collaborate with international businesses, colleges, partners, & customers
