Responsibilities

  • Responsible for site-wide environmental health, safety and sustainability. Accountable for development of programs to assure safe work environment and meet environmental requirements. Supports biologics and API manufacturing operations and entire supply chain inclusive of new capital projects. Ensure compliance with environment, health and safety regulations and Amgen requirements.
  • Ensure EHS by dEHSign reviews and actions are completed.
  • Create a culture of safety at the facility.
  • Oversee Contractor and Sub-contractor safety management practices.
  • Integrate facility into Amgen’s Environmental Sustainability program.

Main Tasks

Review and approve contractor’s safety documentation including safety pre-planning, risk assessments/ job hazard analyses and work permits. Interface with site management to issue work permits as required. Ensure effective orientation and training of Contractor/Subcontractors. Inspect, monitor and document compliance of all contractor activities with safety requirements. Participate in incident investigations, report root cause analyses, and address the lessons learned. Compile and report safety statistics to Amgen management. Review project safety performance and implement changes as necessary to refocus safety efforts. Communicate performance reviews to management on project environment, health and safety. Ensure site complies with local and country specific environmental requirements and that permits are obtained and met. Implement environmental sustainability practices, data collection and reporting related to the ongoing construction and facility design.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of Corporate Services experience OR
  • Master’s degree and 8 years of Corporate Services experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 10 years of Corporate Services experience AND
  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in construction safety on large capital projects, experience managing construction safety in the pharmaceutical or related industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application of Environment, Health and Safety regulations, and Pharma construction best practices.
  • Frequent use and application of construction and general industry safety technical standards, principles, and techniques.
  • Ability to solve problems and provide solutions to a variety of complex safety problems.
  • Work under minimal direction.
  • Excellent communication skills.
