As the Director, Federal Government Affairs, you and your teammates will drive AstraZeneca's engagement with the US Congress. Your creativity will help develop strategies and pull-through proactive and reactive policy shaping opportunities in the areas of pricing, reimbursement, access, and affordability.

We need you to passionately represent AstraZeneca's interests with House Democrats. The ideal candidate possesses a strong blend of strategic planning and stakeholder engagement expertise, along with strong oral and written communications skills to collaborate and engage with others, and execute against government affairs strategies in support of the business.

Accountabilities:

As a member of the US Federal Government Affairs and Policy team, you will work collaboratively and cross-functionally across teams to pull-through proactive business priorities and defend against harmful, external policy proposals. This will include:

  • Assist in the development and participate in the execution of engagement strategies with Congress
  • Engage and demonstrate leadership with trade associations or committees with which AZ participates
  • Demonstrate and maintain strong working relationships with key influencers (including but not limited to: Congress, trade associations, think tanks, and third party allies)
  • Participate on agreed-upon PhRMA work groups and committees and represent our interests therein
  • Represent AstraZeneca in Washington social/professional setting
  • Provide leadership on federal public policy issues.
  • Be an internal leader with vision on legislative matters and strategic decision making on public policy
  • Understand our business goals and priorities
  • Identify emerging issues in the legislative and political environment
  • Infuse Federal Government Affairs and Policy team with outstanding best practices

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in corporate affairs, public affairs, or legal
  • Deep understanding of public policy issues impacting the pharmaceutical industry and AZ
  • Effective writer and communicator
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to navigate sophisticated and matrixed organizations
  • Amenable to travel and after hours work and weekend responsibilities - up to 20% travel required
