What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be a part of Amgen’s Immuno-Oncology team. We are seeking an accomplished highly collaborative Director to lead our Immuno-Oncology discovery stage programs in South San Francisco, California.

The Immuno-Oncology Team is charged with developing Amgen’s next generation of immune-enhancing and tumor microenvironment modifying therapies. The Director will be a key strategic partner in prioritizing and coordinating cross-functional activities for these molecules.

  • Supervise a group conducting Immuno-Oncology target discovery and validation to identify the next generation of IO therapies
  • Collaborate with Therapeutic Discovery, computational biology, BiTE, clinical development, business development and commercial teams to develop the most promising drug candidates
  • The candidate will be expected to contribute to therapeutic area strategy, establish of new discovery platforms, and maintain an external scientific presence.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years of industry experience in Immunology, Oncology

Or

Master’s degree and 7 years of industry experience in Immunology, Oncology

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of industry experience in Immunology, Oncology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Immunology, Oncology or related field with 10-15 years industry experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in T cell biology as evidenced with publication in top tier journals
  • Significant experience in cancer immunotherapy as evidenced in peer reviewed publications and patent submissions
  • Management experience is essential
  • Experience in target evaluation, validation and candidate selection
  • Experience with regulatory filing and interactions
  • Experience leading collaboration projects with academic laboratories and/or contract laboratories
  • Direct experience with T cell targeted therapies including technical knowledge of in vitro cell culture and in vivo models, multi-color flow cytometry, and imaging methods
  • Track record of creative problem-solving and enthusiasm for taking on difficult research challenges.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Desire to be a team player in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
  • Ability to collaborate and troubleshoot to solve problems.
