Job Description

TDK-Invensense Taiwan is seeking an experienced Director- manufacturing engineering with a strong background in MEMS/CMOS industry. The successful candidate will be leading a team of engineers, responsible for managing day-to-day supplier manufacturing engineering/quality activities including trouble shooting continuous improvement.

The overall goal of this candidate is to be the point of contact to suppliers for identifying suitable manufacturing processes; Identify, highlight, & resolve manufacturability issues to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable. This organization essentially is both external/internal-focused, engineering-based, but yet has self-sustained capability on supplier engineering management. The suppliers here include wafer foundry, assembly house, and testing facilities.

His/her primary functions are:

  • Drive supplier day-to-day engineering and quality activities. Identify, highlight, & resolve manufacturability issues to ensure product quality is stable and that supply is predictable. For example,

o Trouble shooting with suppliers for downstream events (either customer RMA or yield deviations) to provide containment and corrective actions.

o Manage the root cause analysis and corrective actions process of supplier quality issues. Perform on site supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions of supplier quality issues.

o Carry out supplier validation audits, with supplier support and supplier advanced product quality planning.

o Manage customer PPM (Parts per Million), supplier PPM, supplier problem solving on time, cost recovery and supplier warranty indicators

  • Interact effectively with engineering/development groups such as Foundry Engineering, Package Engineering, and NPI team to coordinate new product introduction and mass production activities. For examples:

o Interact with product engineering team & product quality team for deliveries and verifications of supplier process stability.

o Work with Engineering (Design and Foundry/Packaging Engineers) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements.

o Support new product launches for Foundry & Packaging team to ensure suppliers can deliver to the required quality standards.

  • Manage the development and refinement of Design and Process FMEA’s (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).

    • Lead the supplier quality improvements and oversee their quality activities. For example:

o Review and evaluate supplier quality data to identify process improvement opportunities within the supply chain.

o Promote the use of customer preferred techniques for continuous improvement such as Lean Six Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).

o Review documentation of inspection results across all areas. In appropriate functional areas, this refers to supporting inspection and test status requirements defined by regulations, engineering product specifications or Control Plans, PPAP approval or product warrant submission.

o Manage the Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Others:

o Lead supplier development strategy, designing the metrics for the function and supplier performance.

o Support Purchasing with the supplier approval process by assessing manufacturing/technology capabilities and Health, Safety and Environmental risks. Assist in defining database infrastructure for product qualification & customer returns.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in MEMS/CMOS industry with experience on wafer foundry experiences or management

  • Background or past experience in MEMS/CMOS foundry process or management.

  • Hands-on experience in foundry process.

  • Demonstrated proficiency managing wafer foundry and packaging house.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Strong background in statistical data analysis.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment.

  • Ability to make sound decision and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly

  • Flexible to work and adapt in an environment of frequent changes

  • Experience writing documentation and reports

  • Experience using office software such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook

Additional Skills:

  • Analytical script/tool development

  • Test data acquisition and database systems

  • Statistical data analysis tools such as JMP


Educational Requirements Master’s degree in Engineering or related field is required. PhD degree is preferred.
