Job Description

Are you looking to join a great team to deliver the next generation of industry leading wireless products? Microsoft’s Surface Team is looking for a talented individual to join our team to drive and lead mechanical design and complex problem solving in leading edge industrial designs/products.

We are looking for a Director of Mechanical Engineering with deep experience leading products through fast-paced product development cycles. Experience in managing and leading mechanical engineering teams in the consumer products industry is required.

Responsibilities

The candidate has experience leading teams through innovative design while utilizing partnering skills that allows the team to work cross-functionally to tie mechanical assemblies, electronics, and software into compelling customer experiences.

Being able to identify, manage, and mitigate risk should be a core competency. Driving product requirements resolution and building clarity for the team to execute against is something that comes naturally.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Mechanical engineering, M.S. or PhD in related engineering discipline preferred.
  • 18+ years of product development experience, with at least 8 years designing assemblies and complex parts for consumer electronic devices, and at least 5 years of managing teams
  • Managed a team from concept through launch of at least 3 complex consumer electronics products
  • Experience Managing other Managers/Leads
  • Demonstrated Design and Leadership Experience with challenging form factors
  • Deep understanding of all manufacturing processes related to consumer products including injection molding, stamping, die-casting, CNC, MIM, glass machining
  • Extensive Experience with Asia based high volume manufacturing and supply chain
  • Believer and driver of FEA as a design input, product reliability indicator, and to troubleshoot reliability issues
  • Subject Matter Expert in most technologies within Consumer Product Design
  • Expert in Risk Analysis and Resolution

 

Domestic and international travel required.
