Function overview
AZ Chennai (Also known as AZ Global Technology Centre, Chennai) is established to provide high quality, scalable, cost effective IT services to the AstraZeneca global IT community. With over 2200 staff in place, the centre continues to play a very strategic role in enabling AZ IT to achieve its overall objectives. As part of the overall AZ IT strategy of positioning GTC as a value centre, key global senior roles are being created in AZ Chennai. The OPERATION IT – SSD Director is first such role with dual responsibilities –
- This role will be part of the Global OPS-IT leadership team, Accountable for IT “Application’s life cycle management” & S/w Spend supporting Procurement, Planning, Manufacturing, Supply & Distribution globally across 30 manufacturing sites of AstraZeneca.
Additionally, own & drive combined GTC strategy across Chennai; India & Guadalajara; Mexico technology centres for Operations - IT.
- Be part of AZ Chennai leadership team as OPSIT Tower lead - Responsible to ensure a cohesive and balanced outcome that ensures OPSIT functional objectives for the various teams are met, while at the same time, ensuring the team participates with other AZ Chennai teams in improving quality and service outcomes of AZ Chennai, and making it a great place to work. The Tower Lead will also be responsible to ensure compliance with all HR and administrative processes and policies applicable at AZ Chennai.
Key Accountabilities for the role
- Lead multi-location OPERATIONS IT – Support & Service delivery teams globally for AstraZeneca
- Responsible for Incident, Problem, Change Management and Service Improvement Plans for all Enterprise wide IT Applications supporting Planning, Procurement, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply& Distribution for AstraZeneca
- Successfully partner & strategize an In-Source \ Out-Source landscape across IT Applications Support & Maintenance with Internal & External IT service providers
- Enable increased Solutions re-use, Applications portfolio rationalization & Standardization of all Supplier & Procurement enablement IT Solutions
- Lead Service Performance & Plan Business Continuity for Operations-IT Applications, creating & defining important metrics, evaluating metrics and their trends, QBRs, risks & actions to mitigate risks
- Partner with Business in identifying and leading Business Processes Automation across Operations with effective use of RPA (Robotic Process Automation)
- Managing the E2E forecasts, budget & planned global spend of $29M for OPERATIONS IT Applications with effective Vendor Management
- Ensure optimal and productive utilization of resources through innovative Process mapping, Resource hiring, Talent Management; Succession & Attrition Management within Budget
- Developing and delivering on the overall roadmap for services and capabilities for the OPSIT area from AZ Chennai & Guadalajara.
- Manage demand prioritization to ensure alignment with AZ Chennai resourcing strategy and plans; Influence and handle the project and workload for AZ Chennai
- Strives to maximize scope and value delivery from AZ Chennai to the overall OPSIT area, acts as a voice of the AZ Chennai team within the OPSIT leadership team.
- Looks for opportunities to collaborate with academic institutions and partners in the Indian environment to bring innovation and service quality improvements in the relevant ITLT area
- Handling the Chennai tower budget and forecasts, including leading planned global spend for Chennai.
- Responsible for collaboration and partnering across other towers in Chennai.
- Accountable for compliance with AZ Chennai policies.
- Identify and initiate technology/domain specific capability areas (COEs), build these in alignment with overall IT strategy.
- Continuous Process Improvement, Process and service optimisation – deliver the cost benefit beyond what’s achieved through margin saving
- Jointly accountable with the Chennai Lead for the long-term economic viability and sustainability of the centre

Candidate Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Knowledge
- Bachelors or master’s in computers or an MBA with strong Supply chain & manufacturing Acumen
- A good understanding of the supply side environment for Technical Talent in India
- Ability to prioritize according to business strategy and recognize opportunities to apply IT solutions and innovation to specific situations
- Proven experience of leading change, using different approaches and methodologies
- Proven ability to interpret/ communicate technical information in business language
- Awareness of technology developments in the marketplace and understand the relevance and potential impact to AZ IT and AZ Chennai
Experience
- Around 15 years of experience in global leadership roles, significant International experience
- Experience in in-house IT Centres of multinational companies in India will be very relevant
- Excellent communication & Collaboration skills
- Experience working at global leadership positions in Fortune Global 500 companies
- Large team management - Demonstrated experience managing a team of at least 100 people, including several senior manager level staff

Job Dimensions:

- Effectively manage a large organization, nearly 200 FTE Spread across 6 countries globally
