POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing and executing strategies for effective scientific collaboration with the Company’s strategic customers (corporate accounts), with the goal of cultivating customer allegiance through deeper scientific engagement. The role supports our Company value proposition of accelerating innovation and productivity, both for our customers and the Company. We do this through collaborative partnership, focused on solving complex technical challenges across the customer’s value chain, from R&D through commercial manufacturing, by leveraging the full breadth of the Company’s capabilities, technologies, products, and services. The role is part of a team with dual reporting to the Chief Scientific Office and Corporate Accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with strategic customers to identify their pain points/ scientific imperatives and develop end-to-end strategies that drive adoption of the Company’s innovative technologies and platforms to address customer needs.
  • Convey technical and business acumen across the Company’s businesses, in the context of key scientific themes and/ or “focus initiatives” (e.g. bioproduction, vaccines, structural biology) to strategic customers, including assigned accounts
  • Establish collaborations that deliver measurable value, both to the customer and the Company (i.e. customer allegiance, commercial leverage/ revenue/ margin improvement, new product development potential)
  • Partner with Corporate Account colleagues to support an enterprise-wide account strategy, and leverage executive sponsors/ senior leaders to drive multi-level, multi-functional relationships with strategic customers
  • Understand biopharma and biotechnology customer value drivers, current trends, and challenges, in communicating relevant content and context to deepen scientific engagement and drive productive collaborative dialog
  • Coordinate and facilitate innovation events, scientific leadership meetings, Technology Forums, and scientist-to-scientist working sessions that connect scientific leaders and subject matter experts to engage in productive and focused dialogue that deepens relationships and advances collaborative projects
  • Leverage operational excellence tools (e.g. PPI) to drive connections across multiple business units and divisions, as well as functions (R&D, product/ applications development, marketing, and sales) in the Company, to ensure alignment and to create more compelling, integrated workflow solutions that differentiate the Company from the competition
  • Ensure collaborations are well supported, driven by “SMART” objectives, and executed flawlessly
  • Develop white papers and/ or support the development of technical materials to convey the value of the company’s end-to-end solutions in selected areas that align with your experience/ technical expertise

Standard Operating Procedures:

  • Partner with Corporate Account leader and Executive Sponsor to establish effective governance and senior scientific leadership in assigned accounts, to create a stable, supported, and sustainable base of collaborative activity
  • Ensure effective communications with internal and external stakeholders on the progress and impact of collaborations
  • Serve as internal advocate to execute the goals and objectives of collaboration projects on time and to the delight of the customer
  • Utilize and champion continuous improvement of resources, processes, and tools in Corporate Accounts and the CSO office to deliver excellence in the execution and follow-up of collaborative projects, activities, and events/ meetings
  • Support the education and awareness of the Corporate Accounts team in key scientific focus areas, “technical” acquisitions, and/ or identified focus initiatives

Qualifications:

  • PhD in science, and minimum 10 years of relevant technical and commercial experience
  • Strong preference for US West coast-based remote employee
  • Preference for demonstrated expertise in structural biology (cryo-electron microscopy), bioproduction (pharma experience), or vaccines development/ manufacturing, with a broad understanding and ability to apply broader scientific themes and technologies to biopharma and life sciences sectors
  • Excellent business acumen and analytical skills; can quickly assess financial impact and opportunity; Ability to build and present a strong business case
  • Executive presence and communication skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; able to speak effectively about current scientific trends and topics both to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Able to interface effectively with diverse audiences from chief scientific officer to corporate development to bench scientist
  • Prior matrix management experience, and demonstrated ability to lead through influence across a cross-functional set of global stakeholders
  • With minimal guidance, prioritizes and solves complex problems with proper judgment
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills
  • Travel (25-30%)
