Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Director Technology Partnerships, are to: 

 

  • Identify and evaluate technology options for alliances/partnerships/co-creation in close collaboration with Research and Development (R&D) functions, development and implementation of innovative alliance models and contract negotiation;
  • Ensure value generation for R&D out of alliances/ collaborations/ open innovation initiatives/ workstreams/ partnership initiatives by definition of clear deliverables and milestones, tracking and documentation of progress of alliance;
  • Evaluate any kind of upside potential of established partnership;
  • Identify and build relationships with key innovation stakeholders (start-ups/ biotechs/ academia/innovation-oriented organizations) in the given ecosystem;
  • Think creatively about novel structures for accessing early innovation and novel structures for collaborating with innovation stakeholders;
  • Scout for early stage breakthrough opportunities in the technology field and present at internal co-creation meetings;
  • Ensure close interaction with R&D functions, present alliance/ allocated projects to respective internal management meetings (e.g. ROC, OIC etc.);
  • Develop trustful relationships and solve potential conflicts with internal (e.g. R&D functions, Legal, BD&L and Communications) and/ or external stakeholders/ partners;
  • Maintain and further develop Bayer’s network in respective region, take over prestigious tasks;
  • Present at external conferences or organizations to develop Bayer becoming a preferred and trustworthy partner for external institutions and companies;
  • Value added to the success of the company;
  • Contribute to Bayer’s pipeline by efficient management and leadership o alliances and accessing breakthrough opportunities from the ecosystem;
  • Position Bayer Pharmaceuticals as trustworthy partner of choice with high integrity and ensure value generation for Bayer. Successful Alliance Management is one of the key components to build our reputation as partner of choice and beat the competition in establishing strategic partnerships;

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Academic degree (Ph.D. or similar) in natural sciences (such a biology, chemistry, pharmacy) and experience in pharmaceuticals research areas;
  • Ability to develop strong networks with the innovation stakeholder community (e.g. academia, biotech’s, start-ups, investors, patient groups) in key ecosystems;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset coupled with scientific and business acumen; creative thinker that can connect strategic dots across the value-chain;
  • At least 10 years’ knowledge and strong experience in Pharma R&D, in particular in early drug discovery technologies;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, good presentation skills;
  • Negotiating and influencing skills;
  • Basic understanding for Legal and Compliance topics;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Solution / goal and action oriented working style;
  • Relationship management skills, comfortable with a diverse set of people, high integrity, able to handle cultural differences.
