WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Position provides vision, leadership, strategy development, and recommendations on benefit programs, including program design, vendor or consultant selection, and implementation planning and execution.
- Develop recommendations to senior management for US and Puerto Rico and expatriate health, welfare and other benefit programs for employees and retirees.
- Management responsibility for U.S. health and welfare benefits in excess of $300 million annually.
- Manage cross-functional implementation teams for new benefit programs.
- Supports M & A benefit projects.
- Provides benefit recommendations and leadership for Expatriate and OUS permanent assignments.
- Provides management/leadership on retirement plan compliance and reporting.
- Provides management/leadership on Employee Stock Purchase Plan and reporting.
- With global purchasing and corporate legal, negotiate contracts with vendors, develop performance guarantees that tie vender financial risk to key areas of performance.
- Plan and manage implementation of benefit plans for the integration or continuation of benefits for acquired companies.
- Manage consultants for specific projects to ensure appropriate scope, fees and deliverables.
- Track industry trends and impact of proposed legislation on Abbott’s benefit plans.
- Provide expert counsel for enrollment of employees in benefit plans including training of benefit counselors, developing employee materials and presentations, reviewing modeling tools, providing employee presentations to explain benefit options, and providing plan detail and clarifications as needed to Benefits Administration team to ensure that employees are adequately informed.
- Develops and delivers presentations to employees and management on benefit plans and changes as needed.
- Manages benefit administration suppliers including advocacy/care coordination, health, dental, prescription and life insurance vendors.
- Oversees ongoing benefits administration for health and welfare benefit programs and provides guidance for strategic updates and compliance requirements.
- Supports financial development and reporting and management of Truven health database.
- Coordinates issue management with payroll feeds and all other vendor interfaces between other internal Abbott departments and vendors.
Accountability:
- Position has primary responsibilities for benefits in U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico; and global responsibilities for employee stock purchase plan and expatriate H&W benefits.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelors required, MBA preferred.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in domestic benefits including in-depth knowledge of benefit laws such as ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA and ACA.
- Must have strong understanding of compliance and reporting requirements and benefit plans as well as IRC tax code.
- Must have ability to work cross functionally with finance, legal, HR, IT and payroll teams.
- Ability to understand and interpret market and regulatory changes and recommend strategic changes as business conditions evolve.
- Proven experience in developing strong relationships and successful interfacing with all organizational levels.
- Strong technical, analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and manage complex projects within budget and timelines.
