1. Lead efforts to establish and grow a User Experience team in China
o Utilize the UX guidelines for the creative and user experience design direction created by the UX-COE for all Johnson Controls products.
o Implement design/experience principles and philosophies the UX team follows when creating any and all designs for BMS products both digital and physical.
2. Lead the enhancement, unification and standardization of UX across all BMS products in China.
o Establish governance model for all human centered design activities.
o Participate in a design/experience council to oversee and guide the experiences for all BMS products both digital and physical across the globe.
o Translate business requirements, user needs and input from cross-functional teams into design solutions.
3. Establish a human centered design culture within the China BMS line of business.
o Act as the unified user experience evangelist, conveying a clear vision of best-in-class designs to senior executives and key stakeholders.
o Support and promote the overall UX direction for BMS by leading product unification efforts in the China market.
o Collaborate with key product stakeholders to understand and support business goals for existing and new products.
o Manage all aspects of the China UX design delivery.
4. Lead user experience research to foster a culture of research lead design in China with direction from the UX - COE.
o Guide UX research efforts to support the UX design process in China.
o Establish UX research best practices that support new efforts in Johnson Controls software development.
o Work closely with Product Managers and Senior Management to align the product development strategy with customer needs.
o Support the execution of UX strategy for the Johnson Controls APAC region while maintaining alignment with the global UX strategy.
o Have a strong grasp and personal experience in executing various design thinking initiatives supporting a human centered design development process.
The successful candidate will:
- Be a strategic thinker who is well grounded in user experience/human centered design strategy fundamentals.
- Be a self-starter who demonstrates adaptability, ingenuity and the ability to successfully lead change management efforts.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the executive leaders.
- Be a strong multi-lingual communicator with particular emphasis on English and Chinese.
- Someone with the ability to articulate, synthesize and visually represent complex systems and business drivers to inform design.
- Need to consistently act as the advocate for the users, and must be able to lead through influence and teamwork.
- Be able to travel 25% to 30% to help build and maintain relationships and to gain a clear understanding of user needs.
- Have a bachelor’s degree in (Masters in HMI/HCI or human centered design a plus), and a minimum of 10-15 years of experience including design management, user experience strategy, user research, web/UI design and information architecture would be ideal.
Optional:
- A strong understanding of the building controls and HVAC industry would be a plus.
