Job Description
OCIS is a Primary-12 International School catering to Chinese students who seek a path to achieve their ambitions of attending Universities around the world. The school is located on a sprawling campus with first-class facilities for our boarding students and teachers, including a theatre, indoor PE facilities, and subsidized meals. DIRECTOR OF ENGLISH STUDIES

The DoES will design a whole-school English Acquisition and Literacy program which will achieve OCIS’s aim of giving a step up to our students applying for and attending universities around the world. The DoES not only oversees the program but will provide in-depth and on-going training for all staff.

• Implement clear standards and assessment and use these to assist teachers in unit and lesson planning
• Creating and developing clear and consistent English Acquisition and Literacy Programs
• Drive an all-inclusive effort that addresses student learning in reading, writing, speaking and listening
• Methodology focused on student learning at surface, deep and transfer levels
• A well-grounded understanding of these programs particularly at the mid and senior management levels of the school
• Regular teaching duties as needed and the development of observation lessons for teacher in service

REQUIREMENTS
• Native speaker
• Must have experience developing a whole-school curriculum or program
• Experience in delivering professional development in English Language Arts and reading/writing in the content areas
• MA in Education, English, Linguistics, or related degree preferred
• At least 2 years' demonstrated experience in a senior or leadership role
• Familiarity with the literacy research of John Hattie and colleagues an asset
• A combination of experience, qualifications, and personal fit are considered in each candidate
