Microsoft is a world leader in the design of personal computing devices. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to design, develop and integrate displays. In this China based role, you will work closely with external display partners and internal engineering teams to deliver the best experience to our customers. You will provide critical subject matter expertise on OLEDs, LCDs, and other display component technology. You will have the opportunity to work on display development from concept stage to mass production while partnering with suppliers, quality, and manufacturing teams to deliver the next generation Surface devices. The position involves working closely with system, electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and design verification engineers, program managers and will require you to help monitor development cycle, drive root cause analysis, troubleshoot issues and ensure MP readiness for our products.
Responsibilities
• Assist US based teams with design, development and MP of next generation display technology.
• Supplier technology assessment, RFQ follow up, design and development from EV/DV to MP.
• Closely collaborate with touch display development partners in driving new technology, material, and product development.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in front-end display technologies, including TFT, LC panel, and OLED design and manufacturing.
• Work with and provide directions to vendors and cross functional teams in specification and quality assessments.
• Support/drive development milestone at supplier sites and at device builds for touch, display integration, sub-system and system assembly, including making sure display front-of-screen specifications are met in the device.
• Define, develop & update specifications, Critical to Quality (CTQ) process, DFMEA, and PFMEA related to display backplane.
• Support manufacturing team to enable seamless transition from EV/DV to MP.
Qualifications
Specific Knowledge / Experience / Skills:
• Degree in display engineering, electrical engineering, physics, materials science, or optics.
• Proven display subject matter expertise in OLED/LCD panel design, front of screen quality definition, OLED materials and processing, Opto-electrical testing
• Experience and deep technical knowledge in front-end LCD/OLED development including TFT layout and circuit simulation
• Strong track-record of delivering products with extensive experience in display design, characterization, manufacturing process and test, consistent with 5+ years of experience in the display industry.
• Excellent analytical skills, hands on problem solving, testing, and trouble-shooting hardware
• High degree of flexibility—willing to fill in the gaps and being self-sufficient when necessary
• Self-driven, results-oriented, and passionate about technology and product-making.
• Strong communication skills to manage cross-disciplinary discussions across diverse cultures with clarity and positivity.
Other Desired qualifications:
• Advanced degree MS, PhD, in technical discipline
• Experience in OLED based devices manufacturing and display module integration
• Knowledge of display metrology, photometry, and color science.
• Extensive experience designing, integrating, and testing display hardware in the consumer electronics field
• Proven capability to define successful product specifications, measurements procedures, and reports which drive product decisions
• Track record of ownership of design deliverables for assigned platforms and/or subsystems
• Programming for test-automation and data analysis, C#, C++, Matlab, Python, others.
• Experience in prototype bring-up, debug, fault detection, root cause and failure analysis.
• Knowledge of display metrology, photometry, and color science.
• e2e product development cycle with successful high-volume product launches
• Must be able to handle multiple projects, programs and tactical and strategic development efforts
• Excellent written, oral communication skills to align with development, operations and partner teams.
• Preferred location is in Suzhou-China. Will need to travel within and outside of China.
